Chinese fairing kits

Afternoon all.
Does anyone have any experience of the Chinese Fairing kits that seem to be available for a huge range of bikes these days?

I've heard that they are getting better all the time, and really aren't bad value for what they are. I remember stories of having to re-drill holes and things, but now apparently they are reasonable quality.

Do you mean fairing as in fly/highway screens etc or
full sports and or touring fairings like the old Polaris and windjammer things?

I've fitted few of the highway types and they're Ok for the price
when the Puig stuff I fitted wasn't as good as the much higher price suggested it would be.

I found they all could have done with a bit of supplementary support
and some times the clamps weren't as robust as I'd hoped, but I'm a bit of a belt and braces type and would rather it didn't drop off than look sexy

Fittings apart, I found the screens themselves were quite OK really

No, but if you want something a bit less oriental in feel, a French company called poly26 do a lot of replica fibreglass bodywork. Their layups are pretty sturdy but you do have to sort out your own fittings.

Although the other sellers are interesting, only really interested at the moment in the Chinese ABS fairing, specifically a full set of clothes for a 1996 Fireblade RRT.

No direct experience but I investigated them when I needed rare Iron Nail colour scheme fairings for a Blackbird after a crash. From what I could gather, quality was mixed but some factories producing them were better than others. Colour matching was difficult and you would be better off using all the Chinese fairings instead of mixing and matching. Or buying unpainted and trying to get them colour matched yourself. This was about 2 yeas ago. I decided not to go ahead and sold the bike as crashed.

Like anything from China: cheap but you have to put a bit of effort in to get things in a working state.

As others have said, cheap and cheerful... I reclothed a couple of my old Helixes using Chinese panels; not as durable as the originals and the finish chipped much more easily, but fit and finish was generally OK (after re-drilling/widening a few holes). I had the same issue as FAS in that there was no hardware included, so you had to try and salvage the old, crusty fittings.

On the whole though, for what they cost (about the same as one genuine Honda panel for the complete set) I was happy. You've also got to factor in that most of the panels for the Helix were NLA by then, and the only other option was shagged, overpriced 2nd hand panels off eBay.

I bought some in like 2012/2013 and they were not even bad then, a minor re-drill on some holes to correct some absolute minor gaps.

This was a 2001 GSXR, so expected very little, was extremely impressed. I am considering some currently keep getting distracted!

Got a set years back from Auctmart, fit my GSXR without issue, however I only fitted them as a set, I read problems happen when you mix with OEM.

Only other problem was they sent the erong colour rear seat fairing, sent a 20th anniversary colour, got a part refund so didn't complain much.

Ey up Sickpup - it's been a while.

I've ordered a few from auctmarts. One for my 929 blade which actually wasn't too bad and the other for my R1.

The quality of the paintwork was spot on. Really deep with quite a lot of depth to the laquer. The qualty of the ABS and mouldings, i would say was 90% there.

I would prefer these over a set of skidmarx or pyramid plastics replacement race fairings in GRP since their fit is totally dependent on the pattern they've used, as well as precision of lugs and holes.

They mounted to the original OEM fairing stays and mounts, but in some instances, needed a bit of fiddling to interlock - Any >08 yamaha supersports was a faff with fairings. So I just drilled holes and zip tied underneath the air inlets to stop the fairing pieces from pulling apart under tension. Just have a look under the ram air intake and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Everywhere else, it was spot on.

Hey Tot
It has been too long fella, hope you're well.

Haven't had a close look yet but the box turned up late last week.
Quality seems OK for bodywork and outstanding for £280 all in.

The bodywork supplied is for the wrong year Blade, 94-95 not 96-97 so wrong front mudguard and the rear panels only have one hole in the side not two but its extremely cheap and fits.
I will have to get a 2nd hand front mudguard and shrouds as I dont like the earlier type.

I'll look closer at it as I get the chance in the next week.
