I know that generally we aren't Harley fanbois on this site but something seems to be happening with the brand that may be of interest to some.
Harley Davidson don't seem to have learned from the Bud Light fiasco and seem determined to emulate their debacle:-

How to piss off customers

What's the problem? Harley have an issue where their core customer base are now in their 70s and 80s. They need younger customers otherwise they'll die out. For what they did to Buell I say let them die, but if they want to do something positive and progressive on their way to the grave what's wrong with that?

Also, anyone who uses the word 'woke' as a negative is a f*cking idiot, including those who write for that awful site you seem to have found.

I don't see appealing to the purple haired demographic is going to boost motorcycle sales. At best they're the sort of people to ride scooters rather than agricultural grade V-twins.

I sort of agree... but who else are they going to sell to? They literally have a dying customer base. Enfield has nabbed the cool hipster crowd and Triumph are doing well with their Speed 400 and Scrambler 400. The other bikes are expensive slow ill handling and designed only to appeal for their image. That can't last.

It's possible the release of the movie 'The Bikeriders' might somehow boost their sales a little? It'll be short term.

Such sillyness is cyclical can't say I've noticed local youth being particularly 'woke' Laughing
There seems to be a sudden upsurge of interest in ratty but legal 125s with loud exhausts and L plates maybe there's a big new trend starting and Harleys will be saved.

Probably Triumph is a comparable company in terms of age and being bought, sold and resurrected. However, Triumph have at least pivoted into different markets in a believable way, certainly the 400s are a nod to this even if it is only a reaction to the changing market.

Harley, on the other hand, have for decades has cultivated an image of classic Americana. How else could they get away with almost zero innovation in over a century? What younger customers want - if indeed they want bikes at all - is light, efficient and eco-friendly... and cheap. The words "Harley Davidson" are diametrically opposed to all those things and all the virtue signalling in the world is not going to change that.

I agree, Harley are fucked; no-one operating from a position of logic would buy one of their piss-poor, overpriced, unreliable relics. Choosing a scooter over a Milwaukee Tractor is a no brainer, irrespective of the colour of your hair.

Let's try and "Steel Man" their position for a moment. "More money than sense" is a valid market to chase otherwise Apple wouldn't have one of the largest market caps in the World Smile

My father-in-law typifies their current demographic: retired and semi-retired Boomers. There's still plenty of money to rinse out of 'em for now but everyone can see that eventually those customers will age out of the market. How about selling to Gen-X and Millennials? Where is the "pay a grand over the top" answer to the Rebel or Vulcan?

Unlikely to have any noticeable effect in the UK and I'm not sure what the majority of Harley riders are likely to do in the US but as road ridden crotch rockets appear to be the favoured ride of black bikers, it's highly unlikely that the white bike riding crowd will trade in their hogs for crotch rockets, especially as their women will bitch at the less comfortable pillion arrangements...

DEI policies are the reason that black kids were finally allowed to join my wife and other white kids in a non segregated classes in 1977 - the only way the county could manage it was to knock down all classroom walls in the school so that all kids were in one place. The gun toting, rabble rousing, bigoted, white hicks couldn't do much about it when there weren't any walls to seperate Chuck jr III from other kids.
Female equity is somewhere behind racial equity here so if you happen to be a women that doesn't think she's a bloke, DEI is probably somewhat in your favour.

In this part of the world only the village idiot would think that it ever went out of 'fashion'.

Pressure from white bigots meant that the rope used to lynch a man in 1913 was left hanging from the bridge trestle, in the local town, until 1985 - it's removal facilitated by the railroad company who removed the entire bridge spanning the river and it's valley.
It's hardly surprising that the local black population has some reluctance to mix with the 'nice' white folks in their restaurants and other businesses.
Racism here is nothing like the Alf Garnet's of the UK banging on about skin tones and immigrants. A vocal minority have convinced a lot of poor schmucks that their white privilege is at risk and is working its way through the alphabet soup of abbreviations and making them their Boogeyman. A couple of years ago it was CRT, now it's DEI, given enough time to further segregate different groups and genders and their vitriol will be led by the SA.

Erik Buell is doing an electric bike now, called Fuell.

The styling is very much a matter of personal taste, it certainly isn't for me. It appears to be trying to compete with the Harley Livewire range. Both are far too expensive for the range and performance they offer.
