Cutting locating lugs off clip on handlebars

The little nibs on the underside of most oem clip on handlebars that are used as a locator into the top clamp.
Is it a bad idea to cut them off?
I want to angle the bars towards me slightly for comfort.

You mean the lugs that stop the bars rotating forwards due to your entire weight being on them when you brake heavily?

Yeah, should be fine to cut them off.

Aftermarket bars don't have them

I've cut them off many to fit aftermarket bars. Some have a steel pin instead of a moulded plastic pin which can be pulled out. If they don't clamp up firmly enough to prevent rotation, wrapping some PVC tape round the bar where they clamp down usually does the trick.
