I bought a seal kit to replace my leaky carbs on a 1999 r1 however the seals connecting the carbs look narrower (although slightly taller) than the ones that were originally there. Is this normal (will they flatten out?) or are they crap/likely to cause problems in the future?

(Original on the right, new one on the left).

Talking from experience, I would steer clear from unbranded o-rings and only buy original ones, even if the dimensions (diameter, thickness) is declared to be original. Small variances will cause either that the oring will be slightly too big, causing it to be pinched during installation, or slightly too small, not sealing at all.

Ask me how I know....

The old one will have flattened and hardened that's why it's leaking.. probably.

The newer narrow one will probably be OK although I'd like to see it fill the groove a bit better. I think (not certain) that Mikuni tend to use imperial sizes still as it's not alwasy easy to measure and get a good metric fit.
