I've got some gaps in my shed roof that are a bit too big for a mastic gun (1 ~ 2cm) so I'm thinking expanding foam? The stuff's a bit too mad for my liking - cue flashbacks of watching The Blob as a kid Smile

Is there a "slightly less mad" version of expanding foam or a better way of filling the gaps? (Mostly wood to wood.) It just needs to look impressive to the wife who's muttering about spider ingress Rolling Eyes

Is it just to stop spiders, or does it need to keep weather out?
Should be fine for the former provided you're really carefull with it (if it expands too much in the wrong place, where you don't want it to, it has immense power and the possibility of wreaking considerable damage!

If you're going to use it, I'd suggest a test application first (and leave it a few hours to see just how much it does expand).

Interior gap filling. I've used expanding foam before, I don't trust myself with it Smile

Something like this is totally controllable and will pay for itself in no time at all through reduction of wastage:-

I was eyeballing the gun version on the Screwfix website but it didn't quite click... thanks! I'll give it a go.

It does but like ALL of the other aerosol types, it's a bugger to control and the results are always shit!

I used tar flashing on my garage - been fine for almost a year now, quick and easy.

I doubt it has enough pressure to jack boards apart as it expands along the line of least resistance so unless you inject it into an enclosed area
it will fill gaps and voids well enough
Screwfix's cheapo stuff will probably do the job
just don't over apply it as the clean up could be a chore

I went for the in-between option, a can with a plastic gun built-in. Much more controllable. Also discovered you can get ready mixed cement in mastic gun form - a choice of beige or grey - and fixed up some of the exterior mortar work.

All in all a very productive Bank Holiday Smile

there expanding foam...and then theres expanding foam..
the one meant for doors and windows is a "low expansion" formula. Thats probably the one you'd want.
