Is it really worth it?
A 50/70cc ped will be shite. The novelty of "hell yeah, got my own bike at last! Freedom is mine!" will wear off very quick when you're trundling along at < 30mph everywhere, in the pissing down cold, wind and rain.
A 125 will still be relatively shite, but significantly better and less illegal. Any quasi-decent 125 will be able to do 60mph or more at a push, and actually worthwhile for getting around the place.
Unless of course you live in a tiny town/village or something and dont need to ever travel anywhere on A roads or dual carriageways etc. in which case a 50 will be just fine I guess?
Dont forget, young male first time rider/drivers get absolute SHAFTED by insurers as standard, if you do anything stupid like riding an illegal vehicle and get caught, say goodbye to ever being able to afford to insure anything ever again. Especially if you intend on getting a car at some point, with average insurance prices for a 18yr old male being around £2k, and thats WITHOUT any points or driving convinctions on your licence.
Ride your nice, legal 50 for a year, then plaster it with Aprilla and Akrovich stickers (which add at least 10bhp each!) and sell it to some other 16yr old for double what you paid for it, then buy a 125 |

That's the good thing about forums. Some great stuff is out there, archived. You just need to search for it. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Yes. I must admit I didn't really bother re-reading the thread. Just stating generalities. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

I saw this thread and immediately thought of our teenage stalwarts from way back in 2004/2005. I daresay it brings back memories to the time when the likes of Binge, Somerset Scratcher, That Guy 404, would all come on here and ask about which weight rollers to go with their malossi pistoned 50cc / 70cc Gilera Runners or Peugeot Speedfights.
The question likely to be asked by those geezers now would be "what van/SUV can carry our kids and all their bikes to x y z".
Man, I miss coming on here and seeing the old timers. ____________________ The Tot 2007 Yamaha R1 4C8 2002 Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer &
