So a while back I actually brought some projector head lights and bulbs with the intention to swap out the reflector headlight housing with a custom design that holds the projectors...

Ive not got round to it yet. But I am using LED bulbs at the moment in the reflectors. And if I'm honest. Theyre not great. And the high beam is next to total Crap...

Which is making me think about the projector project again....

The thing is. I also think projectors look a little wanky too sometimes.

But this isn't really so much about the looks. But the functionality of good headlights, both sides on, and the shutter for high and low beam cut and a clear consistent light...

Anyway... Whats your thoughts?

PS I know the law about projector conversions, in the wording of the law if the conversion is designed to fit the bike its allowed. Hence making a total custom housing for it.

Are the projector lights specifically designed for HIDs? If not and it's lighting performance you want, I doubt any retrofitted HID kit to a projector reflector and lens not specifically designed for that HID bulb will provide a decent quality beam pattern, which legalities aside, will mean it'll probably be pants.

I would be tempted to retain the reflector lenses, put the best quality bulbs in them you can find (Osram Nightbreakers used to be good in cars I think, but I am way out of date on what is good at the moment and if they come in the right bulb types for your bike). Then I'd get some good quality (e.g. Denali) aux lights and wire them up to your main beam, but with an isolator switch. You can turn off the isolator when the bike goes for it's MOT, the rest of the time they only come on when the main beam goes on so won't draw any unwanted attention. The benefit there is you can swap out spot/flood lenses on the aux lights and adjust them to exactly the light throw you want. I did this with the "basic" D2 lights on my bike and it has transformed it. Thumbs Up

They mean 'designed by the manufacturer' not by some bloke in his shed.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I'd say here that not all LED bulbs are created equal. Do yours have any focus adjustment which allows you to rotate the bulb in relation to the back plate?

I have some on my enfield which are superb but when I first fitted them, the focus was all over the place. They have a little grub screw you can loosen and rotate the bulb in the back plate. After a little tweaking, it sprang into a fully focused beam pattern.
