If only we'd known about 'Adventure Sport' class back then.

You're not talking about technological advancement though are you? You're not saying the TDM is more advanced (or as advanced) as the Tiger? You're talking about fashion which ebbs and flows and changes. All you're saying is that the TDM is ahead of it's time. I think nobody would disagree with that. It's also heavier and has less technology... but whatever.

If you like.. The TDM sold not that well in UK compared to France for example, cos people couldn't figure out what it was for.. Now we have 'adventure sport' and they buy cos 'in fashion'.

No... it's because 'We old' not because 'in fashion' per se. The issue with the TDM is that it was unfashionable in the UK when it was released because all us 20 somethings liked sportsbikes.

Now I'm 44 years old, I still personally love sportsbikes and I do a lot of stretching so I manage to ride them, but I can see why people of my age and older would buy an 'adventure sport' bike like the Tiger 660.

Well, like you I prefer bike on the sportier side and I'm fucking ancient by comparison.

Why anyone would buy a Tiger 660 over the Trident 660 beats me. same as why anyone buys an SUV instead of an estate car I s'pose - form over function.

Would think thats akin to the choice between a Tracer 7 and an MT07.

One being better for longer distances.

That one's easy

I'm old and have a dodgy shoulder

Crouching down to get in my previous estate was often painful.

My Ateca "SUV" is taller and easier to get into at my advanced age.

I have wondered a few times if I made the right choice going for the VFR800X rather than VFR800F; at the time, the F felt too aggressive (from what I can gather, they did make the 8th gen a bit more of a sportier riding position, presumably because the "comfy" riders could go for the X), probably not helped by the fact I was coming from a Bonny so was used to a sit-up position. I find the X I have to make a conscious effort to get into a sporty posture, but when touring and taking in my surroundings more than ragging it corner to corner the sit up position of the X is far better.

I assume the modern trend towards faux-adv bike styles is all down to the likes of the GS / Ewan and manufacturers are trying to jump on the bandwagon of those who want to appear like they're about to head off to Mongolia but actually are just going to the third aisle at J&S.

That sounds like the same justification from old men who wear Hushpuppies.

I prefer the look of the front of the new, but the rear of the old. Stupid number plate extender things on modern bikes are Puke. Laughing

YES! and if you've ever seen a pillion on one of these they look absurd..
Saw a pair two up on a Vitpilen (or similar) recently - very precarious and un-natural looking... I appreciate the safety net of a tail fairing and grab rail as a passenger.

There is a grab handle on the Vitpilen but either it's a dealer option or people remove it to save weight. I have one on mind and it makes reversing the bike by hand a lot easier!
