Don't get too excited, I'm talking about bike dryers! I can see the benefit of these on my bike given it isn't wrapped in fairings (so water gets in) but it's quite tightly crammed with lots of nooks and crannies (so difficult to get a microfibre in there). I use my bike year round, this means in winter it does get washed a lot to keep salt off but also lives in an unheated gargae. I also have been using an old cylinder of CO2 to blast water from my bicycle chain after washing it and it has proved very effective. So I'm kind of hoping a "proper" bike dryer might do both?

What's the consensus on these? Worth getting a "decent" one (e.g. Bruhl) or dive into Amazon cheapo stuff? Or go a totally different route, is there something that will do the same thing but isn't actually intended for the purpose?

If I could justify buying yet another tool I'd just get an air compressor and a blow gun attachment. Blast sitting water from all the crevices and mop up the rest. At least an air compressor has other uses.

As above, get a compressor and blow gun.

Air tools are then also a thing, they tend to be quite cheap to buy and work incredibly well. I'd start with an impact wrench and a die grinder. If you're used to the electric equivalents, it'll come as a revelation. Likes of a die grinder, it actually does what a dremmel claims to be able to do in the adverts. Hell, even for blowing up tyres, you don't need to sit for 10 minutes while a weedy battery pump rattles about on the driveway.

Get the biggest one you can afford and have room for. More is more when it comes to compressors.

I use my air compressor to dry mine off if I can be bothered and it works ok but tbh I usually just give it a quick wipe with a microfiber on all the important parts and stick in back in the garage.

It's about the only thing I use my compressor for anymore besides pumping up tyres. I found the 50l one I have is just useless for most tools because the air pressure drops immediately and then the motor is running constantly.

As a long term thought as it won't be cheap costing a couple of grand. If you own the house and garage why not insulate the walls and roof, throw down a rubber sheet floor and drop a radiator in?

If I'm gonna pay out good money for something to send warm air over a damp space, its for one of them fancy toilets that wash and dry your bum, not a bike dryer

That's what dog-towels are for: drying bikes and dogs.

I’ve got a Bruhl, and it’s awesome for getting into all the nooks. I tried a leaf blower once, but it wasn’t as effective.

ive heard that people buy pet driers instead, because they are the same thing, but priced cheaper.

Other half is a dog groomers and uses these, just the dog version which is the same thing just sold with a dog grooming brand on it, she bought a new one and I inherited the old one for bike drying...

They work but it's a bit boring, I tend to use mine for blowing leafers out the garage instead of starting the leaf blower up

I got some cash for a birthday a few years ago and thought fcuk it, I'll get something a bit frivolous so bought a Bruhl. I've used it a handful of times (I don't wash the bike that often) and I have to say it does the job of drying the bike really well. It is noisy like a vacuum cleaner on roid rage, so ear defenders / plugs are necessary.
In all honesty you don't need it, but when I wash my old Harley it is nice to dry it thoroughly in the hopes of keeping the chrome corrosion free.
I've also used it for drying other things such as camping equipment boxes after they've been washed out etc, and the boot of my car after the seal leaked, loads of rain water got in and soaked the carpet. It was very helpful with that.

I use a leaf blower. And you can also use it for picking up leaves.
