There's no reason to assume the UK would get the same tariffs as the EU.

He's an Anglophile and has a thing for Winston Churchill.

And it would give him the opportunity the assert dominance on Keir Starmer and David Lammy.

North Korea can be managed as in Europe, only the UK and France have their own nuclear forces and no longer host U.S. weapons.

Trumpy boy himself is pretty lukewarm on baby deletion and was last time he was in. "whatever, leave it up to the states" is not really radical.

It's a hot button topic mostly for affluent coastal urban white women (always the loudest and most catered to demographic in the recent decade or two). The plebs just don't care or dislike it just enough to be put off by the wealthy starbucks drinkers braying on TV/social media.

To be more cynical, according to googlebot:
"Search Labs | AI Overview

Abortion rates in the United States vary by a number of demographics, including:

Race and ethnicity: Black women have the highest abortion rate, followed by Hispanic women, and then other women and white women. Black women are 4.5 times more likely to have an abortion than white women.

Age: Most abortion patients are in their twenties.

Income: 72% of abortion patients are low-income.

Marital status: 86% of abortion patients are unmarried.

Pregnancy stage: 73% of abortion patients are between six and twelve weeks pregnant.

Birth history: 55% of abortion patients have already given birth to one or more children."

It seems to be heavily targeted at keeping down the population of a certain demographic.

Wow! So heading up defence is an army veteran (but notably not a retired general) who features a large Deus Vult tattoo - historically a motto of Holy Land Crusaders.

Attorney General will be Matt Gaetz, even Floridians consider him Far Right.

Mike "There's no such place as Palestine" Huckabee as - get this - US Ambassador to Israel Laughing

And proving Trump will win the title of Top Troll for the next 4 years, Tom Homan has been ennobled to "Border Czar". Famously on record stating deportations would not involve separating kids from their parents... as the entire family will be sent back Shocked

Make America Hilarious Again.

https://apnews.com/article/who-is-pete-hegseth-trump-defense-secretary-2e2bdd16c8e90f5d037f763cfadbde94

"Hegseth complains in his latest book that “woke” generals and the leaders of the elite service academies have left the military dangerously weak and “effeminate” by promoting diversity, equity and inclusion. He says rank and file soldiers are undermined by “feckless civilian leaders and foolish brass,” adding that “the next commander in chief will need to clean house.”

He mocks and misgenders transgender servicemembers and says the military is turning off recruits.

“America’s white sons and daughters are walking away, and who can blame them,” he writes in “The War on Warriors: Behind the Betrayal of the Men Who Keep Us Free.”

Like Trump, he espouses a traditional view of masculinity, writing that men are innately drawn to fight, compete and prove their strength. Also like Trump, he is sharply critical of NATO allies that he says are not spending enough on their own defense, calling them “self-righteous and impotent nations asking us to honor outdated and one-sided defense arrangements they no longer live up to.”

Biden received five student draft deferments followed by a medical exemption as he was"disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager".

Trump received four student draft deferments and then a medical exemption for bone spurs in his heels.

Millions of Americans avoided being drafted into the Vietnam war.

Polymarket* is showing Trump at 66.5%. Expect the Social Medias to be awash with #Nice if it gets to 69% Laughing

*An online betting market where you can bet on anything in a sort of co-operative shares-based system. People lie to pollsters, money talks etc.

You do know that odds in betting are entirely due to the amount bet on given positions and not based on actual likelihood of each possible outcome?

https://financefeeds.com/polymarket-identifies-french-trader-behind-28m-pro-trump-bets/

FBI agents raided the Manhattan apartment of Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan early Wednesday — just a week after the election betting platform accurately predicted Donald Trump’s stunning victory, The Post has learned.

The 26-year-old entrepreneur was roused from bed in his Soho pad at 6 a.m. by US law enforcement personnel who demanded he turn over his phone and other electronic devices, a source close to the matter told The Post.

It’s “grand political theater at its worst,” the source told The Post. “They could have asked his lawyer for any of these things. Instead, they staged a so-called raid so they can leak it to the media and use it for obvious political reasons.”

Coplan was not provided with a reason for the raid, but the source suspects it was political retribution since Polymarket predicted an easy Trump triumph over Vice President Kamala Harris — as opposed to traditional polls.

The source also speculated that the government is likely piggybacking off liberal media reports that accuse Polymarket of market manipulation and rigging its polls in favor of Trump.

“This is obvious political retribution by the outgoing administration against Polymarket for providing a market that correctly called the 2024 presidential election,” the source said.

Coplan was not arrested and has not been charged, a Polymarket spokesperson told The Post on Wednesday evening.

“Polymarket is a fully transparent prediction market that helps everyday people better understand the events that matter most to them, including elections,” the rep said.

When running correctly (note this word) Polymarket represents a distributed understanding of a given market. Polymarket did not "predict" anything, the aggregate consensus of the individual agents in the system did, Polymarket just displayed the results on a convenient to read web page Smile

I kept an eye on the page from time to time and the main problem would be bias. Even before obvious indications of Trump's victory, the prices were very skewed. It's the "self-fulfilling prophecy" effect or the emotions behind a bank-run... but the opposite of panic. Maniacal confidence? Anyhoo, the participants effectively rigged the market towards the end but only in the way sheep tend to all go through the same gate with a sheepdog on their ass Smile

Ignoring the ludicrous prices in "the tail" the rest provides a succinct history of how the campaign went:

https://i.imgur.com/crKxbSi.png

There's the disastrous Biden/Trump debate on the 27th June, Trump gets shot at 13th July, Biden drops out of the race 21st July and then Harris comes out like a rocket.

Something happened though around October 5th, coincidentally the date of Trump's return to Butler, Pennsylvania Thinking "A steely determination overtook him at this point" the fanbois might say but he also started doing podcasts which might have helped.

Then it looks to me like the market participants realised "hang on, this is a coin flip" 'cos I don't recall either candidate doing anything remarkable going into the last week. The "nah, Trump's got this!" didn't happen till after election day Rolling Eyes

Good luck convincing a judge on how this could constitute election interference but the process is the punishment, I suppose Sad

Americans are not allowed to trade on Polymarket thanks to futures trading and gambling regulations making it illegal.
Polymarket has been using US influencers and advertising over here for a while now. This has been brewing for a long time and the FBI were never going to win in their timing, with the new administration coming in this will be dropped .

I occasionally listen to a local right wing radio station that panders to gullible idiots and brainwashes them with repeated falsehoods (it's helpful knowing how your political opposition 'think' ).
Yesterday they were very put out and ranty about a mother claiming disability benefits because her son identifies as a cat - this stems from a woman on Youtube who posts satirical videos which were latched upon last year by an idiot called Shapiro and then touted as fact. I can't work out if the radio presenters are themselves stupid or gullible or actually left wingers trolling the right wing, hard to find any other explanation, but there are plenty of gullible idiots that listen to this station locally who actually believe the rubbish they spout. Bizarrely enough many of their callers have that slow Southern drawl that is not only tricky to understand it does nothing to dispel the stereotypical view that anyone speaking like that is an uneducated hick...

In other news, The Onion has become the proud owner of Alex Jones' Infowars.
I'm still not sure how I feel about that, on the one hand what better than a media company who openly profess spouting bollox taking over one that also openly spouts bollox, while on the other Infowars is Alex Jones and both of them churn my stomach whenever I hear either mentioned.

AFAIK the administrator jumped the gun by selling to the Onion without considering higher value bids. The judge got upset and hit the rewind button. Not that it really matters. InfoWars can disappear as a website, TV studio, etc. but Alex Jones is still alive and... well? Alive anyway Wink

The radio station problem is common. Someone makes up a lie (regardless of political affiliation) and if it gets picked up by enough people with the right credentials you end up with a game of Chinese Whispers. As ever, always question the source Smile

For example, check out Allan Lichtman:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/16/trump-election-forecast-allan-lichtman

"It's not the model that's wrong, it's all this disinformation!" Well no, surely that suggests the model is outdated and should be taking the disinformation into account Laughing Anyhoo, Lichtman's model turned out to be another way of dressing up lies and fantasy as some serious, scientific fact. A sensible person would have stepped back, acknowledged the unusual circumstances and admitted "sorry, the model won't work for this particular election."

‘Do not pet’: Why are robot dogs patrolling Mar-A-Lago?

The device has lately been spotted patrolling the perimeter of President-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
