I had a similar issue with a much better service recently. I had a sudden severe headache, it crossed my mind to call an ambulance it was that bad, but I didn’t. Next morning it had eased a bit but it didn’t go away. When I finally went to the GP the first thing he did was a blood pressure reading, and systolic was 195, normally seen in A&E. He didn’t say “Fk!” but I saw his lips move. After consulting colleagues and a phone call to the local hospital it was decided that since I had no symptoms of a stroke I’d be put on Amlodipine straight away, with blood, urine and ECG tests and daily blood pressure readings. Now down to 128/80 and headache gone. All tests were good (thyroid not the cause, other organs undamaged) and I’m on statins now as well.

The GP was an A&E doctor retraining as a GP (who’d have thought..?) so perhaps he came at it with a different perspective.

I actually think the headache (neck and back of the head) was ‘referred pain’ from neck and shoulder issues but high blood pressure would make it worse, and in any case I got lucky in getting tested.

I realised a few weeks ago I had a spongey floor, and lifting up the vinal the chipboard replacement floorboard was completely sodden and getting a little dodgy due to a bath drain leak that was leaking under the vinal so no visual indication. Anyway, to do this I had to take out all the bathroom furniture, replaced the floor, replaced the problem item and various fixings inc some copper items and new bath silicone and had to retile a section as well as remove a standard radiator and extend the pipes to the heated towel rail sat fitting on a different wall and fitted a different floor covering. It took me a week and a half (life is busy) but it was rectified for about £170. Could have been cheaper if I'd shopped around more but certain things are needed quicker than others if you want to maintain a working household sans bathroom.

You probably saved yourself at least 5 grand there.
My lad also had some rotten floorboards due to the shower cubicle
leaking and after his initial horror of watching me tear up soggy flooring and pointing out the process of what was involved,
did it all himself as well as fitting new bath taps which was easy once I'd installed full bore isolators which allowed work on the bath and shower without turning the house supply off
Some the quotes he'd got to do this were shocking

Not yet. We don't wind up completely until around May next year although I think I might be around for some weeks after that.

Started on panel assembly, welding the two halves of the Midi roof together.
Moved on to metal finish which entailed panel repair, minor fabrication, welding an general repair faffery.
After that I had a short and turbulent spell as a team leader, not what I thought it would be and hated every second of it.
Spent a few years doing PDR, really liked that so it might be an option in the future.
Lastly I took over a bit of a grey area job in General Assembly.
Its a bit of a combination of all the repair skills I've picked up along the way with a few more learned since.
I have supervision but they really don't know what I do or how I do it, they just trust me to get on with it.

I'm like their dirty little secret.

Its certainly a job I'll miss.

Vauxhall blaming it on the governments forcing EV sail through by fining companies who don't sell enough when the market doesn't want them. Labour happy because they haven't lost Ellesmere port factory as well. Evil or Very Mad

To be honest, I don't have the energy to play the blame game.
It is what it is, nothing will change the outcome. I certainly wont be going on any embarrassing marches etc.
I'm nearer the finish line than the starting post but I do feel sorry for the younger folk there.

A.I. videos on YouTube.

Get 30secs to a few minutes into the video you discover it's an AI voice reading a script. The penny drops when the pronunciation is wrong for the accent, e.g. a British English voice saying things like an American. It seems even the scripts can be AI generated - the few I've had the stomach to analyse sometimes repeat the same talking points.

I love a good "Why does Namibia have such a strange land border?" video, pub quiz trivia type stuff. Genre ruined Sad

The bank rang me about fraudulent activity on my credit card.

Someone had tried to pay an insurance company using my card details and the bank's fraud dept picked it up.

No financial hit to me but I've had to have the card deactivated and a new one sent out with a new number.

How does anyone benefit from paying an insurance company like this?
Surely it'll be very easy to trace.

Anyway, good job Co-op bank.

People who do lots of illegal things are normally none too bright. On the other hand it might be a "test transaction" to see if either you or the bank pick up on it.

I wanted to wear that for this evenings slut walk protest but just
stayed in weeping and comfort eating.

Wind tipped over the bike Crying or Very sad

Looking at my security camera a gust pretty much picked up the bike and threw it to the ground* but not onto the grass, the other way onto the concrete path Shocked

Surprisingly... not wrecked! Bar end mirrors are ghey? Well, took most of the force of the fall in this happenstance. Some scuff marks on the plastic tank sides but the bike cover took most of the damage - absolutely shredded now.

So on the minus side: easily tipped over 'cos light bike. And on the plus side: not much damage as bike too light to fall with much impact Rolling Eyes

*Events may have been slightly overdramatised.

Surveyors, There is nothing wrong with the house I want to buy, but a surveyor wants the wall cavities checking, none of the houses around me that have been sold within the k=last 2 years have had to have their wall cavities checked, and the house for sale near me doesn't need the wall cavities checking, but apparently my house does, even though its the same house as all the others, built at the same time and had the same weathering etc.

What always amazes me about surveyors is they turn up to work in a pair of flannel trousers, black oxfords and a shirt and tie, carrying an iphone.

Whereas I'd expect to do that job anywhere near properly, you'd to need to turn up in a boiler suit or at a minimum some sort of denim trouser, stout brogues and a brown overcoat, carrying a ladder and a flashlight.

Aww, no!
Did it have a sail cover on it?
Happened to my first bike but luckily the bar-end just hit the garden wall inches away and no damage done.

The worst damage on the bike:

https://i.imgur.com/R9DIk0m.jpeg

Other than that the bar-end mirror is scuffed in a couple of spots and its mounting bolt bent. Clutch lever, shifter, foot peg, indicators... all untouched. Gods bless MotoGP bike covers Smile

Did you ask why? It could be that or the wall faces the prevailing wind and some muppet has had the cavity filled. He/she would usually be able to tell by looking for round-shaped areas of more recent mortar at regular intervals in the joints of your pointing.

A friend of mine is a surveyor and dresses smartly to visit clients. Most of the surveys don't need a lot of crawling around, it's basic stuff like construction type, dimensions of both external walls and rooms, windows, and damp checks. If she has to get down and dirty she has an oversuit, a pair of work shoes (and overshoes to protect carpets) in the car along with a collapsible ladder.

Different lenders have different survey requirements. It might be as simple as that.

One of my incommutable rules in life is that I don't have any dealings with peadophiles or their families. Today, however, I broke that rule.
Whilst on my travels and a long way from home, Mrs Raffles was nattering and complaining that she was Marvin. Under duress, I entered Greggs and proceeded to purchase a multi-pack of sausage rolls.
Whilst making payment, I enquired as to the suitability of the product for freezing. The lad serving me said that 'he wasn't allowed to say'. I asked, 'what do you mean, you're not allowed to say'? He repeated that 'he wasn't allowed to say'. This question and his answer was repeated several times before I asked to speak to someone who could give me a satisfactory answer. His reply was that nobody was allowed to tell me and that I'd have to look it up online.
Exasperated, I ceased asking and pointed to a zero tolerance sign hanging on the wall and said that I wasn't surprised that that was there.
I'll not be calling in there again, no matter how much grief the missus gives me!

No gas at the moment as the line under the kitchen floor that runs to the boiler and cooker is fractured. There's an easy route to run a pipe through my side alley. Engineer will be doing the work Christmas Eve Shocked

The electric immersion heater in the hot water tank hasn't been turned on in years so of course that had a fit and conked out. On the bright side the camping stove I ordered from Amazon has just turned up.

Merry Fucking Christmas.

I hate driving/riding between guy faulkes' night and new year. There's something about this three month period that come two types of people.

Dick head drivers racing around on the one half and being generally stupid, and on the other (esspecially mid day) you have those drivers who plod along like long they're on super petrol economy mode, and then counter this to hold up traffic in the middle of the street to let people out of side roads thinking they're doing a 'good deed for the day' when they never looked behind them to see whether a) it was safe to just stop, or b) whether they're causing congestion themselves. and c) causing general confusion because they have to be nice to everyone despite the effect it causes to those they're oblivious to outside their 10 foot forward view only.
