Holy crap, one of those was my second bike (still not sure if the Mobylette Motobecane counts as a bike tho???)

It also had about 3000 miles one it and cost me 50 quid, but mine came with 12 months MOT. The Moby might have gotten me on the road but the AP opened my eyes to all the stupid potential on two wheels. Laughing

In the 70s the posh boys at school started turning up on these when they reached 16, rather than arrive on the bus or walk.
We were all like Wub
Until they started it and it sounded a bit like a wasp in a tin can. Laughing
And we noticed the pedals Laughing Laughing

Nobody was impressed by my Tomos 2-speed (black with gold wheels like a boss) running or not but they practically came in their pants over my mates AR50. Despite the Tomos not actually being restricted and as such being slightly faster with a following wind.

Similar experience here... the Suzuki TS50ER was the rich kid's weapon of choice when I was in the 6th form. I hesitate to use the word 'fast' in connection with either machine, but my brush-painted £49 (from the 'Under £50' page in the Manchester Evening News) Puch MS50 was certainly no slower than these expensively hire purchased machines.

The TS riders fell off more often too, as their knobbled tyres may have looked cool but they didn't work too well on the piss-wet-through streets of Manchester Laughing

I bought my '75 fizz at 14 for £80 from a bloke in the village who commuted to the station on it and then left it outside to rust. Spent a year and a bit painting and polishing it before the big day! It was fast enough cos unrestricted Wink
