You could have diagonal pairing on anything with four wheels but as per my point, balancing in the case of a circuit failure would be very difficult without lowering the effectiveness of the brakes.

Seems they have been in use for decades with some for and some against. Some say they are good in the event of failure as the still give front and rear breaking and others say it unbalances the car in cases of failure.

In a recent MCM video, the old Gemini Marty restored had the front and back as separate circuits with a widget in between to proportion the braking as desired, e.g. 60% front, 40% back.

So closure for this.

I took it to a specialist Transit garage, Transtech in Newport Pagnell. They couldn't fit it in till Friday but had a call from them this morning, all fixed.

Nobby called it right, master cylinder at fault. £280 sorted.

It goes to show that other than fitting tyres, these big, one stop garages aren't worth the trouble. Still a lesson learned even this late in life.

Thanks all for your help. I've learned a bit about modern cars I didn't know, namely they are over complicated shite. I think I'll buy an old Landrover instead.
