One of the cars passed MOT re-test. Actually...
It initially failed on the re-test for the one rear wheel not doing much braking force still (it previously failed for this which I found to be a seized wheel cylinder). Plus a seatbelt buckle not working.
So between the initial fail and now I bought a new cylinder online (which subsequently had a ripped boot so I had a full refund, and then just installed one of the old dust boots from the old cylinder which was still nice). I had to make up a new flexi>cylinder line as typically the one I had twisted initially removing the line fitting to the cylinder (I had already cut it down a few years back so there was no slack to recover it) - and I did my best to bleed the brakes on my own and reset the handbrake etc. I was pretty sure I had all the air out and the brakes were acting as they should be so it was a bit of a suprise when he said it failed again on the same thing.
But when he put the car back on the rolling road to show me, both rear brakes were working fine, and actually fairly well balanced between eachother too. I suppose the shoes might have needed to be bed in more centrally to the drum or something, maybe. It felt fine to me on my quick drive around the block before the re-test and it seemed to brake straight as far as I could tell. I'll have to keep my eye on it though. Diagonal braking, so it's possible that only one diagonally braking corner of the car would ever really actuate if you didn't need to press the brake harshly, possibly the cause for the cylinder seizing in the first place, it's the last brake to be applied. Ah well.
Yes I did fix the seatbelt buckle too, but he took my word for it that I did so.
Yet another messy pass, in the end... Similar to last year, when the fog lamp wouldn't light, but he let me tap the lens, and then it did.
It's been on stands since May as I removed and rebuilt the gearbox, but It stinks of mould- I need to strip it internall fully to find where the hell the puddles of water are coming from. One at least seems to be coming from the dome light- which is also the cover for the aerial so that's quite an obvious fix. ____________________ CBT: 12/06/10, Theory: 22/09/10, Module 1: 09/11/10, Module 2: 19/01/11

Having a bit of a clear out, found a Frank Thomas jacket I'd worn for barely one season. Flogged on Facebook marketplace and surprisingly it wasn't the Deliveroo crowd that picked it up ____________________ Royal Enfield Continental GT 535, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

One of the local small businesses has a publically accessable scrap metal skip which I have standing permission from the owner to have a rake in.
Small honda 4t static engine in it today. Probably off a genny or pump. Pull cord intact, turns over, has compression, no wobble on the main bearings. I can also see someone has had the carb off and tried to refit it with the wrong gasket. None of the engine shrouding looks like it's ever been removed and it's clean as a whistle so I have every confidence it's going to be a runner once I find whatever carb or electrical issue it has.
It's now in my shed for a rainy day project. No idea what I'll use it for if I get it running but it was free and it'll beat the shit out of doing a jigsaw. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. This military gallivanting about I've started doing lately.
I feel it may get me into some trouble at some point.
They're a bad influence all round, and I forget that I can't drink anybody under the table, let alone that sort of career-level boozers.
I lost my virginity on a Naval base, you know.
I feel an ill wind blowing in my future ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

I was nice to some minions and they said Thank you for beating us, and tugged their forelocks.
So that was nice.

Not at all.
I *may* have employed some muscle and dropped a name or two.
In fact I was very polite indeed.

The neighbours have a skip in their front garden and they've said we can throw any odds and sods in if we like, which is nice. Their side alley is piled high with all sorts of junk.

Apparently ...
(my boss told the Chief Exec, who had popped his head around the door during our weekly 1-2-1 meeting)
... I am doing an audit for them. Can't remember what of, but it sounded terribly posh.
"An audit" ... get a load of me.
I thought I was just putting together a spreadsheet and collating evidence.
I also actually had no idea what I was doing but in fact, apparently I've been doing it quite well.
Who'd a thunk it ...
If only I could work out how to write it on my CV without sounding like a complete twonk.
Corporate speak.
Its a good thing *they* understand what they are talking about, cos I fuckin don't.
