Ok ban buy to let, except that would make millions homeless. Ban people owning big houses if they don't have big families, yeah right. Rolling Eyes

Edited to add - surely according to your argument, more properties coming on to the rental market from buy to let will push rental prices down, not up.

Anyway the difference right to buy sales has made is negligible. How about concentrating on something that will make a huge difference like the 15 million or so immigrants that have come over here in the last 30 odd years. Guess what, they live in homes too. How many homes have they taken up? The effect of the right to buy is totally dwarfed by the need to house those new comers.

Fact check - Roughly 2 million houses have been bought under right to by since 1980 (according to google.) In the same time 13 million people have migrated to UK (according to google). You tell me which would have had the biggest effect on house prices/rents.

Sense?! What world are you living in, Mr. Polarbear. I'll give you two options to turn this situation around:

1) Let things carry on as they are until society entirely collapses. Once London becomes the murder capital of the world then and only then will people vote in someone to fix things. Example: El Salvador.

2) Public execute all current MPs, all ex-MPs and all non-hereditary Peers. Round up all civil servants and put them in camps and start again. The entire system is rotten from top to bottom.

I would give my eye teeth to watch certain people hanging from the Tyburn tree.

However I have 5 grand kids that will have to circumnavigate the utter shithole of a country they have been left. I don't hold out a lot of hope for their future so my mission is to give them the best leg up I can, despite Reeves trying to steal everything she can.

Well no because people are priced out of buying a property (partly) by BTL landlords, forcing them into the rental market/pushing up rental prices which the BTL landlords benefit from.

How it connects to social housing is you have local authorities also having to pay to house people in private rented accommodation (due to a lack of social housing), more people having to claim housing benefit etc..
