Been busy ...

1) Tapo C510W CCTV camera
2) Sandisk Extreme 256GB micro SD (for the above)
3) Samsung Galaxy S8 SIM/SD card holder (current one broke in two).
4) Samsung Galaxy S20+ (2 year warranty, as new)
5) Samsung Galaxy S23+ (2 year warranty, as new)
6) Three 5G router plan (for broadband)
7) Smarty 5GB SIM only plan (for phone)

I'm switching from GiffGaff (O2) with no 5G (in my area) to Smarty (Three) with 5G, and I'll probably keep the S20+ (£299) and send the S23+ (£499) back.

It was in the back pocket of my jeans and somehow fell out just before I sat down. Luckily I didn't wee on it. Just immediately fished it out and stuck it in a towel.

The battery was being emotional and I was in a rush and I didn't have time to do fancy shit with a bowl of rice as I was on me way out the door to an appointment, so I just wrapped it in Starbucks tissues from my handbag and headed out.

But now I am home again, the Whatsapp on my laptop pinged so I guess there must still be a connection of sorts Thinking

Time will tell whether I need to also order a new chip.

I needed a new phone anyway, I've bought one before about three years ago and never got round to using it - wasnt ready to cope with syncing all the data on this one, so I eventually gave the new one to my sister-in-law who (being Italian) had somehow got olive oil under her (cracked) screen.

But I was starting to get refusals from some apps saying my phone wasn't new enough for them, and there's been a not-very-noticeable crack in the screen for the last six months.

I think I've had this one a good five years or so. I thought about getting an Apple but I like the other sort better, so I'll stick with those.

1) One 'as new' unlocked Zyxel NR5103EV2 5G router + antennas
2) Smarty unlimited data SIM for £20 a month (broadband)
3) Smarty 20GB for 15 months then 5GB SIM for £6 a month (phone).

Three can take their shitty two year contract and router and shove it where the sun don't shine ... and breathe Thumbs Up

Supposedly a chemical that stops cows farting. It's all a cover though. In reality Bill Gates is going round fucking all the cows.

Contaminated milk products...

It may not be safe for the cows, but it's safe for consumers of dairy products. There is no mechanism for the chemical to reach the milk.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Somewhat unintentionally, a knock-off Raspberry Pico WiFi.

I was buying some tat off Aliexpress (box of assorted automotive fuses) and a "Pico WiFi" was suggested. I've fiddled with various Arduinos and Raspberry Pis but the Pico has passed me by. For a couple of quid, why not?

I tell you why not Rolling Eyes

These are generic RP2040 boards with an ESP32 WiFi controller. In effect, two microcontrollers for the price of one! Unfortunately it operates nothing like the official Pico W so none of the example code works. You pretty much have to learn Pico and ESP programming simultaneously, the Pico playing gatekeeper to the ESP.

The simplest setup is to flash the ESP with a WiFi modem emulation and then the Pico part can chat using old skool AT commands. I have got the thing to this point where you could call it useable... fuck it, I'll buy a proper one Smile

A geiger counter sensitive to alpha, beta, gamma and x-rays.

A chunk of Uraninite as a test source. I'm also going to be dismantling a smoke detector for the americium source. I may also have ordered an antique officer's WW2 marching compass of of eBay. Guess why... Laughing

No idea why I bought a Geiger counter but I was very disappointed it didn't go berserk with the lump of granite my dad gave me when I left home. Still, I have been toting it around for ~35 years, I expect all the Radon's gone by now.

Gonna try the smoke detectors though Thumbs Up
