Are modern cars safer? I’m not sure I believe the RAC’s survey numbers but it’s true that some modern cars have excessively bright headlights. The driver can see, but you can’t.

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/news/motoring-news/quarter-of-drivers-affected-by-bright-headlights-drive-less-at-night/

Similarly, thick roof pillars protect the occupants from injuries but simultaneously make it more likely they’ll hit something due to reduced visibility. Ironically, it might be why 20mph limits are felt necessary.

The industry needs to look at indicator visibility too. The Peugeot 2008 SUVs for example seem to have inadequate (small) rear indicators hidden amongst all the brake lights.

As for the need for cup holders, I despair. Driving and hot drinks in paper cups should not mix!

The worst lights for getting 'lost' are VW indicators in the center of circular brake/rear lights. Bloody awful design.

And yes, I have a Pug 2008 and the indicators are tiny.

One thing my pug has that my Jaguar didn't that i love is a rear view mirror that somehow dims the brightness of headlights in it. A little thing but so bloody useful.

Yes I have noticed there is a trend of late to have tiny indicator/brake lights now that they are LED. They almost seem like afterthought additions.

My last car (VW Bora) had those, and rain-sensitive wipers, both of which I thought were silly. I miss them now…
