floating discs with circlip

On my latest bike the disc has worn down to below limit..
Can you replace just the outer by removing the rivet/bobbins wit teh circlip? Its a 316mm disc diameter but I'm not sure if this is generic part.

I think you technically can but I've never known anyone do it. Not sure if they even supply seperate rotors. I've always thought that by the time the rotor is worn out, the centre and bobbins will be decidedly second hand too.

Yes, but don't do it.

Buying the outer and the bobbins will cost more than a brand new EBC disc.

Thanks for the tips. I think a new disc complete is about £180 - does that sound about right?

Yes I've done it.

ABE used to supply the outer for a CB400 (Pre-Super four) that you rebuilt on the original centre.
The rivets were a press fit and you needed a flypress the fit them. If the disc was off you then needed a lathe to skim the back of the centre to correct it.

I think Brembo and someone else used to also supply discs which were fitted using circliped bobbins but I've not seen them for sometime.

Unless you have access to an engineering workshop just buy complete discs.
