Glad you got it back. Thumbs Up

However these recovery charges totally boil my piss. It's not your fault thieving bastards stole your sons bike. I had the same when my daughter (years ago) had her 125 stolen and torched. The police had it recovered by CMG (robbing barstewards themselves in my view) and like you said, I had to pay them for recovery and then to get rid of a heap of burnt out scrap.

The bike was found a few hundred yards from my house. If the police had contacted me I could have picked it up and scrapped it myself but no, they had to involve those parasites. Neutral

I'm pretty sure those recovery firms buy a job-lot of tickets to the policemans ball every year.

I dunno how it works these days, but when I was a PC we used to ask the owner if they wanted recovery if a vehicle was reported stolen.

If not and it got found they were just told where it was.

Maybe it's different policies for different forces but the first notice I got was that it had been found at X and recovered by CMG. Recovery and storage charges would apply and contact them on XXX.,

Unlucky, but he can at least recoup some of his losses selling it on to someone who would otherwise buy some sort of Chinese shitter to get started.

Paying to recover or have it trashed sucks big time but I suppose that in this instance it's been so long that he'd probably written it off in his mind so looking on the bright side he's got another bike for 220 quid.

Going back to '23, did you ever report as a loss to the insurers and make a claim? If so you 'may' have to report it as found. Ditto with the DVLA. I'm really not sure what the situation is. Anyone know?

If you did make a claim and the insurance company paid out, two things. 1/ It's no longer your bike, technically it belongs to the insurance and 2/ You ought to be able to claim back the recovery & storage cost. Again, after approaching two years this could be difficult, but it's worth a try.

Good point. In that case, I'd be inclined to forward the correspondence (including the charges) to the insurance company since it's now their bike.
