i got cover with my insurance but it will only take me to a garage within 10 miles of breakdown. taken back home is what i want, as im usually out outside of business hours. so it was a waste of money really.
does anyone have any recommendations before i pay the AA?

I alternate between the RAC and AA depending which I can knock down cheaper. There are cheaper options but I haven't had bad service off either. The RAC especially was good getting to wifie twice when her Tourneo brakes fcuked up.

I Have cover for me and her on any vehicle with recovery home or to a garage of my choice. About £150 a year. I think it's worth that but I'm sure others will come along with different ideas. Auto Aid used to be one espoused on here but I'm not even sure thats still going and TBH I just like dealing with one company and not having any bother of sorting anything out myself.

I do mine through my insurance. Cheapest option, gets my bike home and the only way I can get euro recovery for a bike over 15 years old without selling my firstborn.

Sounds like you got Breakdown when you really want 'Recovery'
or Breakdown/Recovery.
Time to read the small print for you young feller me lad.
Who's best?
Dunno I've only had to call them out twice
First time near that London a proper motorcycle van not AA or RAC turned up got it in the van strapped it down and took me home to Bristol so no complaints.

Second time only 25 miles away up the A38
SOS recovery fucked me right over and I was there for 6 fucking hours
as all their boasting about state of the art techno kit was a joke.
In the end some not SOS guy with a car ramp type truck arrived and dropped the bike trying to get it on the ramp!

I was past caring by then I just wanted to go home

I complained like fuck to my insurance company Axa and SOS
To be fair, Axa gave me some compensation but SOS were full of shit.

Oh, one thing to add for the RAC. Both times they came to wifies aid was in one of these big pick up type trucks with all the gear on board. He pressed a button and it folded out like a transformer toy with a towing dolly and all the necessary gear so no waiting for a flat bed transporter truck like I had to with the AA. Saying that the AA was a while ago so they might have them now.

Brilliant bit of kit.

I use GEM Motoring Assist, have done for years. Pretty competitive price, covers the driver rather than the vehicle so my cars, bike and caravan are all covered and get taken where I want to go in the event they break down.
Well recommended Thumbs Up

Also worth checking if they'll recover you after a spill. I've heard of both AA and RAC refusing to pick up a bike after a crash in recent years "We're a breakdown company, not an accident recovery company".

Autoaid, but you'll probably need the older vehicle supplement based on a Yamaha Thunderace last being produced in 2005.

Has anyone any experience of Emergency Assist Ltd?

I found them when checking out Feasty's recommendation of GEM Motoring Assist. Thumbs Up

Their prices seem quite resonable and you can mix cars & bikes. They have a ''Personal'' option for ANY vehicle you're a Driver or Passenger in .... but then slightly confusing they then ask you for the vehicles details... and only the one! Thinking

I had a joint AA membership for me and the missus for years. No complaints other than the price gradually increasing.

They recovered her after minor shunt fried her electrics, no argument. I've used them several times over the years for punctures and stator failures on the CBF1000. I've had to wait for a flatbed a couple of times, but most of the recent pickups have been transit-style van with fold out bike trailer.

Now I pay Nationwide for their FlexPlus account that gives me bells & whistles cover with AA, worldwide multi trip travel insurance and mobile phone insurance. Covers whole family for less than I paid the AA directly per year.
