OK its shiny but the compromised rear suspension is a fuck up that Honda would never sign off on and its still a 50 bhp tourer at best.

Its just a grossly overpriced ornament now

Yep any suspensions mods or front end swaps need a positive engineers report before I'd get on them.. who knows what's holding the front end on either.. A cut and shut stem?

Lower fork legs probably ok, obviously needs new stanchions and you'll probably find that the lower yoke has been deformed as well ... and I'd be quite concerned about the frame as well, quite likely it's twisted.

I've no problem buying an aciident damaged bike, in fact my first GSX1400 had a totalled front end, got the wheel repaired, new stanchions and a set of custom yokes I designed myself and it was back on the road good as new.

This one I think I'd give a miss, but could be worth it ...

If you scroll down on the listing it says "engine runs: no" and I know these guys, they're pretty keen to get the engine running even if they have to rig some elaborate bypass.

They have a good turnover of bikes listed. I like to have a browse through from time to time and speculate on what happened to the poor things.

In theory, if there was any doubt about the frame being straight then it wouldn't be a cat n write off. Probably maybe in theory. Laughing

Easy-X wrote:

They've ridden into a stationary object at low speed which bent the forks / twisted them in the yokes, the bike was dropped on the LHS when almost stationary which broke the rear indicator and I think the end of the clutch lever is slightly scuffed, all in all I'd say it's not particularly bad.

But why wouldn't the engine run? What's damaged to cause that?

I'm not interested in buying it, I'm just trying to figure out what happened. Laughing

It'd have to be something more complex than a connector that's fallen out Thinking Tip over sensor faulty from the factory? It is a Royal Enfield after all.

In the event of motorcycle falling over in either of its sides with the engine running and the gears engaged the roll over sensor will disable and fuel systems and switch OFF the engine. This is to prevent any damage to the motorcycle and its rider.

To reset the roll over sensor and reactivate the fuel systems.
  • Ensure the motorcycle is made upright and is on its center stand.
  • Ensure gears are in correct neutral and the neutral lamp is glowing in the instrument console.
  • Switch OFF both ignition & stop switches, wait for a few seconds and switch ON the ignition and stop switch again, to start the engine.

A Google search did turn up a Himalayan owner posting about a problem with their tip over sensor on a new bike but I admit I'm grasping at straws.

The wreck is already up to (edit) £760 and if you bought the frame & forks on the two links it adds up to near enough £2k when you add in the delivery costs for all three. Then there's the stuff you can't see.

Now considering you can buy a new Meteor 350 for £3200 and a '71 plate for £2,200 I don't see much point in buying it for restoration unless you already have the components or can get them seriously cheap, particularly as it's always going to have that N salvage swing tag hung off it.

It went for £1,652 in the end. I second Capt Sisko's assessment: eBay literally had "Shop Similar" with a Meteor listed for £2,200 buy it now.

£1,652 huh? Meh, if they can get away with just replacing the forks then they'll have saved themselves a few hundred pounds

But if they wanted an Enfield 350 project bike then for just £1,370 they could have bought this.

We have a term for that sort of thing where I come from, "Rat Bike". Love that sight tube running the length of the tank; probably more accurate than the fuel gauge on my BMW. Oh, and the patina on the brake rotors. Nice custom touch that is difficult to duplicate with fully functional calipers. Looks like the forks and tyres are worth more than the rest of the bike altogether. Probably cost more to make that bike pass MOT than it is worth.

It's a show bike...driveway jewelry. Park it out front and enjoy the admiration of your neighbors as they marvel at your craftsmanship, style, and attention to detail. Or park it on the sand at the Malle Mile and let Freddie Dobbs fawn over it for awhile. If you can get it started you can take it for a run down the track. Don't need no brakes for that race anyway. Wink
