It's been long enough now that i think it's ok to post this...

Following on from this post: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=4832245&highlight=#4832245

this is the video of the incident. Not terribly spectacular tbh, it's quite a slow one, but mildly interesting.

I bet the insurance company landed up in profit from that one. They'll almost certainly have persued the third party for the damages through the small claims court for the total amount of the claim. So if they suceeded they got that, plus costs AND charged you the buyback.

Then they'll load your policy for the next 5 years and get their money back a second time.

Nice little earner.

I think the hire bike charge, which is what the other insurance company had issues with, was over £4,000....for 5 or 6 weeks of hire Shocked

Maybe if they stopped screwing each other, they wouldn't need to keep screwing us (as much).

I bet they'll still have clawed all that back off the third party directly. Mrs stinkwheel had a crash a couple of years back. We informed the insurance there had been a collision (no details other than the name and address of the other party) but didn't claim because I fixed the bike for under £50.

It turns out the third party had claimed off Mrs stinkwheels insurance. First we knew about it was a summons to the small claims because they'd already paid out about 6 grand, then there was a second claim for about the same again which they hadn't paid and the other partys insurance company was persuing us directly. (How you do £12k of damage to a landrover with a motorbike, don't come off the bike and only do £50 of damage to the bike, I still can't comprehend).

After a degree of what the fuck is going on here and give me one good reason I shouldn't report you to the ombudsman? The insurance settled the claim, appologised for just paying out as a fault claim having made no effort to find out what happened and who was at fault (probably 50:50. They turned right into an unmarked driveway without indicating as Mrs stinkwheel was overtaking but that's not the point, they never even asked about it). Also for not informing her there had been a claim against her. She got £50 for her trouble and a written undertaking to not record it as a fault claim against her NCD.

Low view. Minimoto? Wink
The rider took off on amber and some of those junctions have little interval. Bad traffic planning but you should expect it. You’re often better off filtering up to the first car and then being second across, letting him/her shield you before passing moments later.

I think there is a too shorter gap nowadays, but this isn't a planning issue, it's just bad driving. While i did go on amber, it was still a full 4 seconds that her lights had been red when she jumped them. That is what caused this.

I much prefer to get out of harms way of those around me as soon as i can.

Edit: no it's just under the headlights Smile

Watching that video it's obviously not your fault, but I'm glad to know it's unlikely to happen to me as whenever I'm pulling away in those situations I'm always looking left and front. They always say ride like everyone is out to get you.
It's better to be watching for someone pulling out, but also checking for emergency vehicles and making sure there isn't a police car at the front just waiting to follow after and catch you out for some reason. Wink

Insurance is just the worst though, hate them with a vengeance - doesn't matter if it's bike, car, house, life - they're just there to make your life a misery. Evil or Very Mad
