Keeping it as short as possible, I currently have a Cardo Packtalk Slim on my main helmet, I use it with earplugs in, and at max volume, I can hear music/calls just fine at all speeds. It's great, no complaints.
But now I've bought a new flip front, and I want to fit speakers, just to stream music from my phone. I don't need microphone/calls or any other advanced features. I don't want to spend a fortune on another Cardo when I don't need it, but I'm worried that if I buy something cheap the speakers won't have enough volume (or the receiver not have enough oomph) to get through my earplugs.
My current plan is to get a set of spare cardo speakers (they're pricey but I know they're up to the job) like this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/187108103378
and then some kind of cheap bluetooth receiver I can velcro to the outside of the lid, maybe this - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/385492891301
But I can't be the first person to have done this, so has anyone got any recommendations? I don't want anything with leads (e.g PlugFones) as I always end up catching the lead and displacing them. And I can't use a Cardo second helmet kit (as the Slim isn't easily removable from my existing lid). ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR (Dead), '00 VFR800FI, 2011 CBF125 Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)

I got these, they are earplugs with a set of Bluetooth earphones built in. The connection voice is Chinese, but they work very well and actually have a massive range, I've left my phone on my bike in the garage and have still been listening to music when I get into my kitchen.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another. |

Thanks Francis, I'll check these out. It's shame that they seem to use a proprietary connector for the speakers etc. so you can't substitute better ones, but you can't have everything.

I've tried these kind of things and I'm forever ripping them out of my ears one way or another. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR (Dead), '00 VFR800FI, 2011 CBF125 Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)

So, an interim update.
Went and visited my local accessories shop. Tried their cheap headsets and none of them had enough volume with my earplugs in. Also tried the cheapest Sena headset, and it was fine (but £90). At this point I was resigned to having to pay a load of money so I got them to order me in the cheapest Cardo headset, so at least any accessories I got in future would be compatible.
But while I've been waiting I thought that the real secret to getting the volume I need is just bigger speakers. And I thought for fun I'd just get the cheapest headset I could find claiming 40mm speakers (same as my Cardo ones). Ended up ordering this for £20 (Gearelec X-11) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395593005851
They're claimed by a few sellers to be 40mm speakers, but they aren't. Inside the foam they're more like 30-35mm. But.... they're really loud. I think they're going to do the job just fine. Came with all the mounting velcro bits and pieces you'd expect. I've got them in the lid and they operate with enough volume I can just about use them as (slightly tinny) desk speakers. No idea what the microphone would be like on calls (probably terrible) but I don't care about that. As long as the battery life is ok (I'm testing it now) I reckon these are a winner. ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR (Dead), '00 VFR800FI, 2011 CBF125 Previous - '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win (chinese copy of an old Honda design with a C90 engine)
