Got to admit, I am started to get a bit niggled with this optimisation malarkey. AI is taking me down a path I am *not* interested in going. I feel it may even require me to depart from social media as a protest, about which I shall be even more annoyed as I do not want to lose touch with my long-distant fam, many of whom I only keep up with on soc-med.

I like to have a varied menu of topics to be interested in, not some homogenised version of an algorithmic opinion regarding what I might like to read, discuss or view. And I like to choose them for my fucking self.

"Internet services providers are tracking your online habits and selling that info to advertisers!"

That was the future we were promised. Promised! And yet I have ad banners for cheap flights Sad I've been on two planes in my entire life. Let's click on "Get Surrey" with no ad blockers... leather handbags and reduced price Christmas trees. Do I see ads for motorcycles or electronic parts, things I actually buy? Do I f*ck. I did have a week of ads for greenhouses and conservatories... the week after I'd bought one Rolling Eyes

It's all a pack of lies. AI comes along and it'll just be more lies but differently phrased.

I'm doing an experiment to see how long it takes my computer to send me ads for something I am thinking about purchasing but have spoken to absolutely nobody about ... Thinking Wink

Not searched, not mentioned it out loud. Ever.
Just thought about it.

So I am waiting to see whether/how long it takes the computer to pick up brain waves at close range

Slightly off-topic, but hellcat’s comments remind me that I started using Spotify hoping it would lead me to some modern ‘you might like’ music, but it hasn’t, not even stuff I’ve found independently.

Changing the subject again, I’ve reached episode 7 of Silo on Apple TV. The series (1 of…) seemed promising at first but it’s starting to drag. If it was a film for cinema they’d have had to conclude the story in 2 hours but this’ll be 6 hours already and my attention span is waning. It’s lazy storytelling, albeit knowingly.

Got bored halfway through season 2. Season 1 was incredible though.

Fair enough, I hung in there for the spectacle.

Netflix then recommended me Tokyo Override. Not quite sure what to make of it.

I'll give it a look. Best animated series i've watched in recent years was Cyberpunk: Edgerunners although Terminator Zero was ok too.

For story/writing, Edgerunners way better than Arcane, no contest. Half way through Override and the dialogue has unfortunately degenerated into motivational poster stuff Sad

American Primeval on Netflix (8/10 so far)

Started watching it last night, and ended up binging the first 3 episodes in one go

Brutal take on the 1850's wildwest, and the Utah War, involving 3 way tnesions between the US Government forces, Native Indians and the Mormons, with a Mothers need to get her son West

Not one for the squeamish

The Recruit (Netflix)

Another one of those "hey! the new series is out" but completely missed the first season.

A light hearted take on international espionage - fun but don't think too hard about it.

The Pitt (2025, HBO max) - 8/10

Now, do you remember the ER (1994–2009 tv show)? Well, one of the main characters (Noah Wyle) from that is back with a yet another TV show from the hospital environment where he plays a doctor. I'm 5 episodes in and I must say, it's not bad at all. I used enjoy the ER show back in the day and the Pitt feels like its sequel. In the ER Noah Wyle's character was a young, inexperienced doctor. In the Pitt his character is a middle-aged, accomplished doctor, full of experience taking the lead.

If you like hospital drama with realistic view on things, give this one a go. Thumbs Up

Rewatching Babylon 5... yes, all of it!

I am not a consumer of the new just for the sake of it. There is nothing wrong with refreshing one's memory of the Classics. ST:TNG for example has themes (for the time of recording at least) that are psychologically valid and not some contrived bullshit like Eastenders. Yes Minister and The Thick of It would be examples of political classics.

Anyhoo, a throwaway line: "How many people actually belonged to the Nazi party? The Communist party? The Jihad party?"

Even for the 1990s, well done... very well done Thumbs Up

Might spend a bit of time on Netflix, havent watched it for a while, so might start with Black Mirror and Adolescence.

If I can stand the brummy accent Puke I might give Peaky Blinders another attempt this time round, but I'm not holding out much hope.

Black Mirror, season 7 on Netflix

Bless 'im, Charlie Brooker is about 10 years behind current tech trends as this season mostly focuses on immersive realities (VR with bells on). That being said it's a nice variety of stories.

I expect next season to focus on AI... at a time when ppl are so over it ChatGPT would be lucky to get a job as Talkie Toaster.

Andor 9/10

Slow starter but 2nd half of season 2 is some of the best Star Wars i've seen in a long while.
