It seems to be drifting backwards out of control but at quite a speed.
So presumably they didn't want to go under the bridge.

Engine failure so it seems, although the speed it's going backwards seems excessive even though the current there can be very fast depending on the tidal situation. I was trying to see the wash at the stern to see if the engines are going astern but it's not obvious.

I'm surprised the tug boat that I presume was escorting her didn't have a line aboard but I don't know if the harbour regulations would insist on it. 2 dead and many injured, presumably all young naval trainees. really sad.

A major embarrassment for the Mexican navy though.

Edited to add - Just seen another video and it looks like the engines are going astern (the very first part of the video) and there is very little current at the time so a major fuck up somewhere. What happened will come out over the next few days I expect.

Well, when you put it like that... but regardless, is it a court martial for getting lots of your men (and maybe women) killed unnecessarily?

I would expect criminal proceedings if someone is found to be at fault, which they will be. Someone is always culpable. And yes, I presume the Mexican version of a Court Marshall for the Captain and senior officers.

You can see them up there towards the end of the second video you posted, and hanging/falling in the first one Neutral

Hmm Sad As per video The Artist linked, it's lucky it was a steel-masted ship otherwise it would have been dozen and dozens killed.
