While Hyenas manuals were not as good as any official workshop/service manual,
They were affordable and useful and could get you a long way into fixing cars and bikes.
Were.....

I mentioned i was having some difficulty in getting useful into on my old van to the MOT tester who recommended Haynes Autofix and showed me a screener on his phone
of what looked just job.

In 'Dont think buy it!' mode
I rushed home, typed in my registration click on model and signed up for the online manual as a paper one wasnt on offer,
logged in and reality set in.
TLDR:
Fuck me, shite, just pure shite.

Just asking something simple like how change the air filter showed generic pics of air filters but nothing remotely like the one I have
wtf?
I started to do some research ( at last) and found I'm not the only to be suckered in.

It full of cheap, copy/paste generalisation which looks to have benn scraped off the web
for the most part.
Relevant info unique to that model? no chance.
Wiring diagrams, useless

Of course, the small print which we all read dont we?
says when you use the 'service' as one has to to evaluate it,
you invalidate any right to claim a refund

Fuck You Hyenas fuck you
you cheap scammy bastards

MOT tester probably on the Haynes Autofix payroll. At least you can pay him a visit and tell him what you think of his "recommendation."

I Googled 'Haynes Autofix review'.

Mr AI tells me..

Haynes AutoFix, the online version of Haynes repair manuals, has received mixed reviews. Some users find it helpful and easy to navigate, while others criticize its lack of detail, generic nature, and difficulty finding specific information. Some users also express dissatisfaction with the electronic format, finding it less useful than the traditional print manuals.

I don't care how good the electronic version is, I don't want it. I don't want to have to use my phone/tablet or even computer with oily hands or go into the house whenever I want to read something. I want a book I can open at the page I want beside me while I work.

Occasionally I've resorted to playing a YouTube video to look up something obscure and that's bad enough when your hands are covered in oil. At least with a paper copy the fingerprints act as bookmarks to the important sections Smile

Right! and they serve as evidence that you read the manual when things go south. No one can accuse you of failing to RTFM because fingerprints are admissible evidence in court. Cool

I like it when you get a used haynes manual as part of the bundle with an old bike. Far more informative history than a bundle of receipts.

The oily marks on the pages don't just tell you what a previous owner worked on, it shows you how much they struggled with it.

I wasn't too bothered to find out that modern Haynes manuals would be electronic, from a users POV it at least makes them more portable.

But then I actually saw a preview of one, and it really is the most vague generic rubbish. Genuinely no more useful than googling "How to change an air filter". It's a crying shame though, Haynes manuals weren't perfect (I always found the lack of part numbers, and the way they were organised annoying) but if you couldn't get hold of a factory manual (or even if you could) they were so useful.

It's such an almost quaint concept now, the idea that a group of blokes literally got a bike and stripped it down and put it back together, photographing and writing about the process. Presumably they all got old and retired, and the company didn't bother investing in replacements as it's more profitable to to just sell the old manuals, and for anything new, just sell people bullshit.

Totally Agree with the ''Oily Fingerprint Book Marker'' Thumbs Up

When looking for that job you last did ... Just look for the oily smudges!
I took to making notes on the inside rear cover of all those little measurements and readings to save wading through the bumf.

My favourite phrase, ''This is a non servicable item ... Replace'' yeah right you try finding a 40 year old widget. Sad

Cheers Chequered Flag

My 'favourite' part of my (paper) Haynes ZX6R manual is the section in 'routine maintenance' for changing the fork oil, it refers you to the suspension chapter which then helpfully tells you 'for fork oil change, refer to routine maintenance'.

But yes the Haynes digital manuals are complete guff.

Also: 'On disassembly, the washer/o-ring/gasket/seal/split-pin must be disposed of and a new one fitted', yeah no that's not happening is it.
