I've just been going through the renewal of my bike insurance, oh what fun that is. A few things have ruffled my feathers. There has been no change in me renting or owning the property I'm in. So why ask if I rent or own the property?
Also they only allow three forms of security, I have five, and they wont advise you which combination is best. I would have thought advising you on the best ways to secure your bike would be in their interest.

Not sure if I'm missing something but without asking you they don't know if there's been any change.

I suspect that the best way to secure your bike is to use all five.

I suspect that the best combination to declare when insuring your bike is zero forms of security so that you're still covered that one time you park up without having security chains and disclocks with you.

I suspect that declaring any of them won't reduce your price by much.

i never mention any security devices as i just imagine the toerags will use it against me if given half a chance.

Bennetts ask for specific forms of security but in the small print they expect you two use at least two. The informal message I got was specific "high value" security like HISS, YISS, etc. or an approved and professionally fitted aftermarket alarm is the stuff they want in the drop-down. Not officially stated but expected: if you're parking up at the shops they're expecting at least steering lock + disk lock or chain. Unless your disk lock or chain are especially high priced and known I wouldn't bother listing those.

You'd have to chat with your insurance provider really. Telephone conversations, how archaic Wink

Best security these days is a kick start only bike with a manual choke.

What I mean is that there wasn't a difference between renting or owning a property, so why ask? if there was a price difference of even0.5% I'd say fair enough, but there isnt.

Ticking along, a few pains and the lethargy is getting to me a bit. I'm just taking it a month at a time. Haven't made plans for Xmas, but hopefully they are managing things, I haven't got any worse from my last scans, but due more in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed and all that, Laughing

If you rent they sell your details on for contents insurance. If you own they sell your details on for both building and contents insurance Wink
