So the Social Medias are awash with military on the streets of LA and I'm thinking "probably some old footage from years ago from somewhere entirely different" i.e. clickbait. Bet this isn't even mentioned by CNN...

Trump deploys National Guard to clashes over immigration enforcement

Oh dear. You know things are bad when the likes of CNN and BBC have to cover it.

Looking at the riots here, in Ireland and in the US, there seems to be broadly three groups: grass roots ppl who really are upset about Current Thing, recreational rioters up for a new pair of trainers and Rent-a-Mob kitted out in matching outfits and printed signs Thinking

in LA its foreign invaders rioting whilst waving a foreign flag because the government are deporting illegal invaders.

in Ireland its the Irish protesting violent foreign invaders.
the latest riots in Ballymena were started after school girls were sexually molested by invaders.

Keep believing that if it helps keep you happy.

I find it rather amusing that some of the arseholes that shouted most loudly about removing all undocumented peoples are now whining that they have no crews on their building sites or cheap labour to pick their crops or cleaners to keep the guests in their hotels happy. Thought that they'd get away scott free with paying cash for cheap labour because they voted for the orange twat who only cares about lining his own pockets and that he'd never hurt his own voter base. I guess that if you vote in someone with ambitions to be king it shouldn't come as any surprise when you get royally fucked Laughing

And I find it amusing that people both sides of the border are talking about "taking back their land". Erm, who's land?! The Spanish Empire held what is now California for ~50 years, the Mexicans for half that and then there was a war and the Americans have had it ever since (175 years.)

It seems to follow the same logic Putin's using to justify stealing the eastern side of Ukraine: "hey, there's loads of our people living there therefore it's ours."

They also got $15 million dollars (in 1848). For comparison the Russians got $7.2 million (in 1867) for Alaska.

The bit I find oddest and most sad is that many Republicans are proud of the troops being sent to California and enjoy most vociferously the idea of troops assaulting and potentially killing their fellow countrymen.
This has shown just how deeply divided the USA has become over the last decade or so.

It was nice to see old school Republicans at our local protest yesterday. While many toed the party line in the last election I think there are now quite a few waking up to the fact that Project 2025, MAGA Republicanism is not what they were expecting.
There was a lot of guff before Trump's first term which mostly went by the wayside and I think that despite the rhetoric that a lot of Republicans were expecting the same usual hot air results this time around.

Now we'll just have to wait and see if they've opened up a free for all, tit for tat, killing spree of politicians across the board. Rolling Eyes

Being a much older society not founded on religious extremism, I would hope we would be better than the USA.

This seems to be a very odd comment coming from you!

Really, why? I have made no bones about how bad our country has become in my view. America is further down that road simply because they have a President who agrees its become a total shit show. Trump might be the biggest cvnt going but he has a lot of American who believe in his idea of what America has become.

Our 'older' society is getting replaced by people who have nothing in common with it. Our society certainly has religious extremism. Remember Manchester, remember London bus bombings. London is already under 50% ethnic British, and by that I mean people of Anglo Saxon or Celtic descent. We aren't going to do better than the USA, we are going to mirror them. Two sides and a huge amount of hatred who don't get on. Just look at how Labour tried their hardest to not have a grooming gang inquiry? They don't want to have things dragged up. It's going to get much much worse.

Lies are common place to try and stop any people criticizing the governments immigration policy, even starting from the Windrush which no politician ever invited. Now it's a policy of 'Racist' if you say anything against the brown wave of immigration. Racist of you even complain about Pakistani groomers. Racist if you complain about Romanian immigrants abusing white girls.

The thing is it worked. Well it worked till Reform came along. No one wants to be labelled a racist so people kept quiet. Now they have a political party they can vote for without Labour (and the rest of mainstream politicians) being able to scream accusations at them personally because their vote is hidden by the poll station.

So, yes, I seriously think we will be going down the same road as the USA.

I don't think what's happening in the US will replay over here in quite the same way, mainly because there isn't the money to pay for it all. The idle rich in America are very, very rich.

My mum lives in Sale, South Manchester. She has been there since 1989. I don't live there, or in the UK for that matter. I visit about once a month and stay for about a week. I go on the bike, so I end up doing a lot of walking (and hence people watching). One thing that stands out these days is how the population mix has changed. The majority of the young people I see are not "white English", this includes school kids, young adults and young working people. The vast majority of white English I see are pensioners. Allowing young people of any nationality to come to the UK and work would seem to be strategic and probably necessary if all those retirees are going to continue to be able to draw their state pensions.

And when all those people we have imported get old? What do we do then? Import another 10 million and on and on goes the cycle till it all collapses like any other ponzi scheme inevitably does.

I am going to pivot away from the substance of your post and just pick out the Trump part.

Trump doesn't give a monkeys about what the US has become. His sole vision is to benefit himself and his family while revelling in the adoration of the masses. If you want to know who is steering the 'what America has become' part then you need look no further than Jon Vought and Steven Miller.

Fair enough, i only know what i see on the media. If what you say is correct either he's done a cracking job of fooling the voters or they don't care as long as he delivers.
