Nice Blast From The Past Polarbear .... Love the Dog Box Thumbs Up

I'm sure a lot of us have thought, ''I wish I'd had a phone camera to record that moment'' But on the Up side we haven't got any of those embarrasing photos shared to Facebook to be displayed forever! Shocked

Saw a weird one yesterday that made me look twice ......
Crocks & Socks Shocked

Mind you there's a lot of Grockles about at the moment so anything's possible. I'm surprised they don't ride on the pavement .... because they walk up the middle of the road! Laughing

I wear proper gear generally. But if I'm doing bicycle speeds I wear a bicycle level of gear. And some places are just so damn hot that wearing anything approaching proper gear gives me serious concentration issues.

I still think wearing flip-flops on a 600 is just daft, but each to their own.

Just saw my first shorts and T-shirt this year and remembered this thread, a bloke rode past my window at work riding a Tuareg 660.
Each to their own, but always makes me cringe having seen a cycling mate who came off at about 25mph and looked like he'd been badly juggling belt sanders

How does the OP feel about stout brogues, tan slacks and a Hawaiian shirt?

Saw my first His & Hers the other day.

Casual Shirts, Shorts and what looked like bare feet! Shocked

It was on a Fully Rigged out Harley D with running boards though. So I suppose if it had gone over the panniers and fairing would have kept them of the Tarmac.

I ride to work in Altberg Defenders, 3/4 camo shorts and an armoured hoodie.

Its safer for me to do this than ride in full gear as I suffer badly in warm, let alone hot weather from dehydration and heat stroke.

I take risks as appropriate for the gear I wear, I'm old and can make these choices.

I've not read the replies in this thread but I think anyone riding bikes without basic safety gear is a total muppet.

End of story..

Because full bike gear is so practical in 30+ degree heat.

So wear t-shirts and shorts then or whatever you want.
I don't care.
Enjoy the free feeling.
End of story.

Was 30 DegC + on the commute home today. Had full gear on except for summer gloves and was very comfortable.

I wouldn't wear a helmet if it wasn't law, either.

Why haven't you got a three point harness in your car and why don't you wear a helmet when driving?

So you asked a question didn't get the answer you wanted so now you're sulking.

Ste's question was well considered but you sulked.

Risk compensation is a real thing. Do I ride the same in shorts as I do in full gear, no, I'm an adult who can modify my behaviour as to the circumstances.
Also its quite likely I have considerably more experience riding bikes than you do, likely so do many others on this forum. After all, you haven't ridden a bike in 10 years.

As to Ste's point over the 3 point harness and helmet in a car, you would be more likely to survive an accident but you make the choice to only use the minimum of safety equipment so who are you to judge others who do the same?

And one could argue that having safety gear makes you more prone to taking risk ... how many of us wouldn't do 30-80mph in shorts/t-shirt, but will quite happily do when wearing boots, gloves and a leather jacket/trousers.

In fact, when seatbelts were being introduced, a nice man named Gordon Tullok suggested that this might in fact make people more likely to take risks, hence he suggested fitting a big spike in the middle of the steering wheel instead Thumbs Up

Precisely. Never knew his name so thank you for that.

I ride 3 miles to work through the middle of London in my shorts and hoodie. I wouldn't ride at 80mph in them.

It's all very well (and true) ppl take more risks the safer they feel but the protection is also there because of all the other c*nts on the road Wink
