1) The RAM for the new system arrived today, an hour os so later it was up and running.
2) Discovered the joys of installing an OS to a virtual disc, so to make a backup or a new install of the OS I just copy the single file.

The patient survived the heart-transplant* and has woken up Smile

Now to try Tainted Grail. Last night I tried power-limiting the GPU by -6% (which is all AMD let you do these days) but to still had a power-off. Fingers crossed the Corsair does the trick.

While I was at it I hoovered all the cat dust from the case, cleaned the rad and fans. Seems a lot quieter and the RGB stuff looks lovely again Smile

New motherboard arrived, was so careful instlling CPU you'd have thought I was defusing a bomb ... anyway, all working perfectly, along with the RTX 3080 I'd just bought.

Gears well and truly oiled Thumbs Up

Next, dug out the Samsung Odyssey+ VR kit I bought away back on 22/11/2019 ... connected it and apart from an issue with the controllers to begin with, I eventually had it up and running.

Woooooohooooo, absolutely fantastic, not as good as the Index, especially with regards the controllers, but I can now go and play Half Life: Alyx ... I've been waiting a long time for this.

Gears now dripping with oil Laughing

V5 for the GT turned up. Bearing in mind it was Tuesday evening the details were changed online, that's a quick turn-around. There are some things the DLVA does very well.

Well they have to know who it is that they are selling their details about.

Adjusted the back door with an allen key to improve the alignment and lubricated the locking tab parts with moly grease. It no longer sticks and no longer requires physical violence to lock.

It took me 10 minutes. It'd been like that for at least 5 years. Rolling Eyes Laughing

I clicked on this Project Farm video:

I've Been Proven Wrong About Calipers!

Mostly it's Chinese trash masquerading as American brands with the last two made in Scotland and Japan, cute.

"Hmm, I have a nice digital caliper. I wonder where it comes from?"

Made in England. Even has a calibration sticker on the back. WTF? It's been a long time since I've seen that stamped on anything! Better look after 'em Smile

Took doggo to Eastbourne, let her run amok on the beach.
Wub
She's becoming a lovely little doggo, off-lead she goes haring off independently but checks back, "Where's mum, the old slowpoke?" and is actually starting to return when called, talks nicely to other hounds on or off the lead.

I presume you mean it was slack? Surely the MOT testers don't count links. Laughing

Nothing oiled my gears today because I've run out but I did fix my gears by replacing the broken gearshift return spring on my Minsk 125. Whole job took 50 minutes and cost £5.

Gears will be oiled tomorrow when my bottle of EP90 arrives.

Finally got the the LCD info display for the AIO (cooler) working every single time I turn on the new PC.

I had it connected via the built in USB hub in the PSU which was connected to the motherboard ... now it's connected to the motherboard directly.

I then sadly spent quite a few hours designing an overlay for the display with the info I wanted to display Shocked

Long story...

Youngest daughter's boyfriend's birthday this weekend, she wanted to buy him a vinyl record player. Some sort of novelty/nostalgia trip I assume. The one from eBay didn't work, the second one from Argos let loose the blue smoke when powered up. I'm assuming the third one did work Smile

Anyhoo, she was feeling a little sorry for herself so I offered to buy the defunct eBay one rather than have her go through the rigmarole of sending it back. I considered it £15 well spent to relieve some anxiety.

I analysed the unit and found the actual record player part - motor and pickup - were working fine. I sourced the guts of a Bluetooth media player from AliExpress (you can buy unassembled circuit boards if you hunt about) and set to work...

And now I'm listening to Bad Manners - The Can Can on 7" @ 45rpm with the added bonus of being able to play music from my phone. The cat was very curious of the new spinny thing and had his little paws up on the faux-wood... until about 10 seconds in Laughing
