Mission Improbable: Another One, But Hopefully The Last

aka Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

More of the same utterly unbelievable garbage, but taken to a new level ... and the ending, talk about a cringe fest!

They're sh*t but they do put bums on seats at the multiplexes.

Something thats certainly on the downturn.

The Electric State (Netflix)

This got absolutely slated on release. I dunno, I wouldn't say it's terrible. I mostly get the sense of "film badly adapted from book" [checks Internet...] okay, so "film badly adapted from graphic novel". TBF we've only had graphic novels for 40~60 years so I could see how Hollywood would have difficulty grasping such a concept.

Stalker (1979) AFAIK my third attempt* to watch this film.

Do not sit down if it's this or Fast and Furious Umpteenth, you need to be in the right frame of mind. I don't do (many) drugs these days so I had to make do with 3 bottles deep of "Katy" cider.

Do not watch this film unless you can afford a spare moment to stare at clouds. Today I was fixated by a tiny circular formation of resin formed on the end-grain of a roof beam in my loft. With my torch it caught the light just so.

Do not watch this film if you don't believe there can still be beauty found in abject misery (it is a pre-Glasnost Russian film after all.)

Do not watch this film if you think the word "existential" is merely a high score in Scrabble.

*I've attempted to watch Inception 6 times and I'm still not 100% sure I've seen the whole movie.

Took me two attempts to watch Stalker but its hypnotic quality finally worked on me. I failed multiple times with Solaris but then I saw the much more accessible George Clooney version which I thought was excellent. This gave me sufficient motivation to go back and watch the original which I finally managed. Call me a heathen, but the Clooney version is miles better.

You might also like the BBC radio adaptation. Just put the cans on your ears and close your eyes and trip out. Just remove the 's' in https... Rolling Eyes

Remains of the Day 8/10

Never got round to this before, it was on in the afternoon while I was lying on the sofa being old, so I watched it.

Was v.good.
For some reason I thought it was a sort of romance but its not really.
Its much better than that.

If you liked that, try “Never let me go”.

Heads of State (2025)

Lively, fun and utterly silly! Unless you have a pathological hatred of either Idris Elba or John Cena - who play off each other as stereotypical versions of their respective heads of state - well worth a watch!
