Turns out the Crank cases I bought years ago may not be usable.

There are two different types of SC33 (model type) crank cases. The 96-97 and the 98-99. The later uses a different gearbox including shafts with a speed sensor in the top rear of the upper crankcase. The crankshaft is the same and most of the ancillary parts such as the clutch are the same but the shafts and gears are different.

Looking at Ebay, most vendors are selling the crankcases without the pistons which makes them virtually useless as the barrels are cast as part of the top crankcase.

I guess I'll just have to see if everything fits, if not it'll be sell them, get another set of cases and go the big bore route.

I was looking around for fork stanchions a while ago and the cheapest were Slinky Guide ones from Wemoto at £120 each. briefly they also had a full fork rebuild kit for both forks with the stanchions, oil seals, dust seals, both sets of bushes and snap rings for £245. They had this again last week so I bought a set.

It breaks my rules of only using genuine seals and bushes but I'm willing to give them a try for the £5 they cost me. If they fail it will only cost me for the oil used and I bought a bulk amount of Motul from Opie late last year at 60% off that should last me a fair few years. This offer is still on now.

The original forks on this bike had a cracked knuckle where the fork tube is inserted into it. They corrode then crack. I rebuilt the forks on some earlier bottoms that don't have rebound damping, not ideal but it was all I could get at the time.

I've bought a couple of sets of bent forks, no one wants them but good forks can go for over £400 and likely still need a rebuild. At the moment there is a set of pitted forks on Ebay for £120+postage, a single fork for £169 posted so in this case I'm better off buying a set of bent forks and rebuilding.
The firsts set of forks I bought cost £100 and the second set £49.13 so I'll check them over and see which are best to use.

Bent fork tubes are a piece of piss to bend straight so long as the bend is only slight. I've done it several times. I use hardwood blocks, a dial indicator and a 10 ton press, though you don't need 10 tons.

The ones I buy are too far gone, bent and rippled. Pointless buying repairable ones when they all need rebuilding. Bikes coming up 30 years old so new stanchions are almost always required due to corrosion damage regardless of how good the seller says they are.

It might be common but it's not a rule. My brother's urban tiger's fork stanchions are still mint.

Had some time to do the forks. One was easy, just came apart. The severely bent one went off to a local garage under the arches.
The seal was stuck so the leg needed heating to get it out and the stanchion needed straightening so the damper and spring could be removed.
I don't have a press and no access to my little workshop at the moment so dropped it off and collected the next morning for £40 and we now have these,

There are spanner marks on the top caps but overall I'm happy with them.

Got to decide now if I want to fit gaitors to them, probably will so I'll never have to touch them again.
