				|
 |
				| Hi all,
Would you consider just over 18k miles quite high mileage for a 125cc?

I've spotted a couple of YBR's around that mileage that I'd like to take a look at, for short trips and the back lanes. I always check the bikes over etc to make sure they are in good condition and no niggles pop up.

Models are between 2010-2013. Any insights of whether I should aim lower mileage, or from your experience that it can be a good buy.

 Many thanks

				| What you have to remember is 125's are often bought by youngsters who have little mechanical sympathy or knowledge of maintenance, and whilst I won't say they don't care, often as not they're not keeping the bike that long so the less obvious maintenance tasks get overlooked. When replacement parts are needed, they’re more likely to be from ebay rather than from the main dealer. Now that's not really their fault, we've all had to learn, but those bike you’re looking at are pushing 15 years old, gone through quite a few hands and things will be worn. As the old joke goes, it’s had one careful owner, the other dozen have been right bast*rds.
To me the bottom line is not the mileage (unless it’s astronomic), modern engines are far better made than the wrecks I learned on decades ago, but it’s the condition and how much it’s going to cost to put it right. Buying from a dealer gives you certain rights, but as Ste hinted at, a one month warranty is a waste of time and is probably riddled with so many get out clauses as to be a waste of paper anyway.

				| There's another bike near me i looked at that's done 14k and 11 month MOT. Only annoyance is it has advisories for a slight pulsating on front brake and notch in the steering head bearing.. suggesting the bearings atleast would probably need replacing at some point..
 The joys of bike hunting

That one?

You need the registration so that you can check the MOT history. It won't tell you everything but it will give you some idea of the life it's had.

I wouldn't put any value on the fresh MOT as the dealer selling it does MOTs.

The one month warranty it comes with makes me wonder how much confidence they've got in the bikes they're selling. |

That one looks alright to me - not too much corrosion, tank paintwork looks cared for, if it doesn't rattle or smoke I reckno it'd do nicely.

				| There are certainly many worse examples on eBay!
Get the registration number from the seller and check the MOT history before travelling to see the bike but I'd be surprised if there's anything particularly terrible about it.

One thing I have noticed looking through listings from that dealer is some of the adverts say HPI checked and others make no mention of it.

Once you have the registration, you can use biketrader to HPI check it for free.

				| I haven't been to see that one yet, as they keep appearing every few days on ebay and marketplace. The private seller ones seem a bit better priced and might be worth more of a punt.
 No rush for me
