It would be really cool to find my dads old bike and buy it off the current owner.

I went back to the dealer that he sold it to but they had no information on who bought it as it was several years ago.

I can still see the bike is being MOT'd every year with a small but similar amount of miles on it, so I'm thinking the same person uses it a few times a year.

It's a 2014 Red BMW S1000R - PK14 UGZ

Any ideas on how else to go about finding it?

Internet forums, Facebook groups etc, which are specific to the model of bike?

This page may be of use
It appears to be for mainly legal issues, but if you provide a covering letter explaining why you'd like to get in touch, they might help

Another way you could try it is via servicing / MOT history route.

IF you know the area where the current owner lives, you could contact the local bike shops / independant service centres, explain the situation to them, and whilst I wouldn't expect them to give you any information, they may be prepared, (for a small fee), to pass on your details or forward a letter to the current owner. They may even, for a small commission, the cost of service & MOT, and say a new set of tyres, act as middleman.

Rolling Eyes

You're never going to find it if you don't say what bike it is you're looking for.

The current owner could be reading this thread whilst being blissfully ignorant. Laughing

Time for you to get posting on owners forums, Facebook groups, Reddit, tick tocks, etc etc etc.

You need a nice heartwarming story to help encourage people to share it. I don't know, maybe something about how your dad is dying and spends a lot of his time reminiscing about how you two used to go out riding when he had that bike. Now because you're a kind thoughtful person, you're trying to buy that bike for him and you're willing to pay a more than fair price for the bike.

Ask people to please share the post. Wub

Attach a couple of photos of the bike and him looking happy, job done.

Laughing That's all very well but what are you gonna do if they don't wanna sell it? (even with Ste's sob story) Laughing

Update... I found it and bought it back!

My mrs rang me on Xmas even and said I'VE FOUND YOUR DADS BIKE

It had ended up in Edinburgh and the last owner traded it in to Superbike factory in Macclesfield.

I rang them up on the Sat after Xmas and bought it back. It now sits in my collection (will probably ride it here and there but not much). Bike is immaculate for a 2014 model.

Ahh brilliant news and what a fantastic setup you have. I thought I was lucky having 4 bikes.

It was a gym when I bought the house but I like the way it feels like a showroom with the mirrors Laughing

She was looking manually for it for a while but she just had alerts setup for the year / make on Auto Trader and just checked them whenever one pinged up. It had the plate on show in the photo so she knew it was right, literally popped up around 5pm on Xmas eve.
