So I filled up the tank, paid 4 quid & out of that I got 124 miles.

So 4 quid is 3.055 litres at 130.9.

So if I divide 124 by 3.055 I get 40.58 miles for 1 litre (near enough)

And if I multiply 40.58 by 4.54(a UK gallon) I get 184mpg.

Have I got that right?

It is a Monkey so the MPG could be right but my math(s) ain't so wonderful. (read that as thick as fuck)

Your help is appreciated!

Seems a wee bit optimistic to me
Looking at Fuelly, the average mpg for a Honda monkey is in the low hundreds

Your first line is a bit vague
filled it up from what? bone dry of just low?
then 124 miles to what? bone dry or low?

You really need to fill it to a fixed level, ride it, then refill it to the exact same level preferably at the same pump noting the mileage.
Even then, all this depends on the accuracy of the filling pump and odometer.

Whatever, you do seem to be getting good MPG out of the thing

Honda claim 1.5L /100km for the 125cc monkey bike. In English this equates to 188mpg (UK), so yes, both your maths is correct and your MPG is entirely possible. I've also got to admit that someone actually getting anywhere near what the manufacturers claimed figures is a miracle. Well done.

I took it down to the flashy light & brimmed it, then took it back down to flashing again. (not my usual practice but as it's new I wanted to see what I can get in case I'm stuck in the middle of nowhere)

The problem I've found is the tank size. I was told it was over a gallon, the book says 1.2 UK gallons but if I can only stick 3l in then it really isn't close to a gallon (unless the flashy light means there's still a litre & a half left in it, which I highly doubt.

I'll try that for a few weeks/months & see what's what. Thank you for the link..

& thank you to everyone for the replies. It is appreciated.

I shall come back periodically & update. (prepare to be bored!)

This is why I've come here to ask. I'm not the best rider & the bike is already 6 years old, granted it only had 720 miles on it when I got it but I was still doubting my math(s) as it seemed a bit too good to be true.

Fingers crossed I can replicate this time & again. It will be interesting to see if it as good as it seems to be.

The low level light is not an accurate indicator of level
it's just a well.. 'indicator'
Mpg is a variable, not a constant, but with this in mind
doing the mpg checks does help to tell us if our engines are working efficiently or not.

I wonder if the stated tank capacity has used the US gallon of 3.7summat litres instead of the UK's 4.54 litres?

I disagree... it tells me not to be such a tight arse & fill up! Wink

But yes.. hopefully the figures will give some real accuracy.

Absolutely, I admit it. People ask me why I don't want a bigger bike & this is one of the main reasons. You don't get to have this much fun in a car & for so little cash!

It's scary the amount of information you can gather from that place. Names, VRMs, where they fill up.

Fingers crossed I didn't add fuel to that!

"Why do you choose so many different routes to get to the same place?"

To keep MI5 busy Wink
