Very true.

What is the post-lunch equivalent of Brunch?
Like, when its too late for lunch, but too early for dinner/tea?

Whatever its called, I had a very nice one today just now:
Layer 1: Three soft but crispy edged strips of decent bacon : smoky but not too smoky, not too salty, and exuding practically no water (impressive in this day and age of mass produced bacon).
Layer 2: Eggs, scrambled to a perfect level of creaminess and with parsley from my own front garden
Bottom layer: Two tiny slightly toasted and buttered slices of that nice chilli and cheese loaf from Morrisons.

A very satisfactory food experience. Wub

Thinking Good effort Thinking but my image of afternoon tea is more about petits four or scones with cream and jam, than bacon and scrambled eggs on toast Laughing

On Friday I finished my first ever fast, and it was 5 days of drinking just water with a coffee in the morning. I've lost over a stone in the last week so it obviously works, but I'm amazed at how well I felt, I really was expecting to get headaches and what not but I genuinely felt good.

To be honest, I felt better as the days went on, and I'm actually considering doing it again this week. I needed to do something pretty extreme as I'd got up to 23st and it really wasn't good.

I want to be eating one meal a day, which I have since friday so I'm very pleased with myself. I'm doing a carnivore diet which looks like the sort of thing I can happily stick to, so I'll see how that goes over the next few weeks, but so far so good.

Oh God that would be torture for me.

I am managing to drink more water nowadays, a friend of mine talked me into it about 10 years ago and I have to admit to feeling much better for an improved water intake.

But not for five days with no actual food intake, I couldn't bear it, and would fall quickly off that wagon Laughing

Today I have had a nice chicken and avocado salad for my lunch.

Do you not get hypo symptoms after so long without any carbs in your system? I can't even go half a day without some carbs as my blood sugar level gets too low after a few hours and I start shaking and feel dizzy. Do you supplement with electrolytes when you fast or do you just drink plain water and nothing else? What you're doing sounds dangerous and unhealthy to me.

Yes, the 1st time I did it I fasted for 48 hours. The first 24 hours were fine, most of us do that when we get a bug, feel unwell or get the trots..

Having said that, the second 24 hours were hell. Light headed, dizzy, weak & blurred vision to name a few. But wouldn't any system that had gone from running on one thing to another be any different?

When you think about it.. 50 years of burning carbs & excess carbs... to burning off excess carbs & now using protein, fats & oils & the occasional carbs in such a short space of time was always going to have side effects.

The other thing that made it worse was giving up drinking 10+ cups of tea a day. There's no way I could drink tea without milk (the amount of sugar in milk is staggering) & I despise coffee too. I had the worst withdrawals! (again 50 years of drinking tea to none was bound to cause issues!)

Don't get me wrong, sometimes I still get some of those symptoms but now I know what's to come & when they're coming (most of the time) I can compensate for them. Mostly these days it's light headedness when I stand up, or if I'm ill then I tend to be more achy than I used to

But the pros far ooutwiegh the cons. I feel much better. I now watch what I eat & I've lost a shed load of weight & I'm starting to get down to a weight I haven't been since I was a youth & that makes me happy!

I have a turbo trainer attached to Zwift & I usually have a bottle with electrolytes when I'm doing a serious session (5 days a week) & the other 2 I do a lighter session where I don't really feel the need for electrolytes.

You aren't supposed to do Keto for more than a few months at a time but when you come off it the weight piles back on, so you have to watch what you eat even when you aren't in ketosis.

GROSS BIT ALERT!

Before I started this diet I could nail a 20 inch pizza in 20 minutes, I bought one a week ago & christ I'm not joking.. after a few slices, I thought I was going to explode,,, after 10 minutes of feeling like death I stuck my fingers down my trap & threw the lot up..

The pizza was amazing & I donated it to my neighbours who were more than happy to dispose of it. I shan't be wasting my money again.

The problem with that though is that you're probably just losing muscle mass and "good weight" rather than fat due to a lack of essential nutrients necessary for normal bodily function. Cutting out carbs and fats on a restricted diet is one thing but the human body cannot function properly without protein, vitamins, and minerals. Be careful !

You seem to have a fairly well educated grasp on what you're doing so I will wish you the best of luck...but please be careful and don't push your luck with keto.
