Fosi Audio K5 Pro (external USB DAC). It's not quite studio grade but with the right bass/treble knob adjustments it gives a reasonably flat/uncoloured output. Cheap as chips though Smile

to be honest, i think studio grade would be wasted on most men by the time they reach their late forties.
my wench has far better hearing than me now. she can even sneak up on me nowadays unheard, which annoys me no end. Evil or Very Mad

There's two things to consider: an external DAC is a little better isolated from sources of noise and a decently built (not necessarily expensive) unit will have a flat output. Gaming DACs and headphones are almost always "coloured" to be bass heavy.

I'm sorry, if the original composer wanted to you to vibrate the wax out of your ears that's the way the track would have been laid down to start with. It's presumptive of manufacturers to tell consumers "this is what you like, trust me bro!" Besides, I already listen to bass-heavy tracks, adding moar bass just leads to distortion Sad

Do you remember this:

Calvin Harris - Acceptable in the 80's

Is the riff lifted from this?

Siouxsie And The Banshees - Happy House

Kae Tempest, Diagnoses

Never have I wanted to slap a person more than I want to slap that one.
Whine, whine, fucking whine.

To be fair ... I have quite liked one or two songs released in the last year or so - but this one is just back to being whiny.

Like Adele? "You left me... but I'm not going to bang on about it."

Oooh no, way worse than Adele.
Its like rap (only sometimes sung) about the gritty urban reality of life as a wretched poet of questionable gender.

A couple of recent ones have been almost acceptable ... but only just.

I've gone into an early 2000s metal black hole and started listening to One Minute Silence today.

Buy Now... Saved later is a surprisingly solid metal album. It fills a need that not much other metal can do.

I zipped through the Alexandra Shulman audiobook about fashion etc (and it was brilliant)... she has a very bossy tone of voice (as you would expect from a former editor of Vogue) which includes a slight lisp - a bit disconcerting at first but the book is designed in a series of short chapters about various items of clothing or accessories, and as she is similar in age to myself, its often very relatable. Lots of name-dropping (of course) and London-in-the-70s/80s/90s - I finished it in less than 12 hours.

... and I am now moistly listening to the dulcet tones of A.Schwarzenegger Esq. in "Be Useful"*

Wub

I did not expect to find myself becoming so impressed by him.
The first time I ever saw him, looming over a cinema in Haymarket as Conan the Barbarian, he had no effect upon me whatsoever, indeed I was scornful.

The annoying thing is:
1. He is much less arrogant than one expects;
2. Quite a lot of his attitude about life is very similar to mine - except that after knockbacks he kept going, whereas I fell by the wayside and I only recently pulled up my socks and got back on my feet. The world is probably quietly celebrating the fact that I was never as single-minded about my ambitions as he was/is - I would have become entirely obnoxious Laughing ; and
3. I've never before heard him talk this much, his funny little hybrid accent is really very endearing. He's currently wittering on about Austrian traditions including Strewwelpieter and Krampus, which are both some of my favourite legends.

*Its an extraordinarily entertaining yet motivational little volume.
