Hello everyone a Mate has a 2002 R1 Yamaha it is in Showroom Condition , He went to start it Yesterday and Could Not get the Ignition to work , Is the Ignition Tied to the ECU like Hondas with the HISS System or can he just Buy another Ignition . He put a Load of WD40 into the Ignition and it worked about 30 minutes later but a couple of hours after that it would not work again. Any info would be great Cheers Francis

How many keys does he have? When I had an XSR I had two "normal" keys and a red "master" key and the ignition barrel was paired with the ECU. 2002 though, probably the earliest incarnation of the YISS security system, I'd expect someone would have cracked the security by now.

I’ve got a 2003 (5PW) R1 and YISS isn’t in the manual. I think it first appeared on the R6 in 2003 and other models in 2004.

Do you mean the lock wasn’t turning fully, or the starter wouldn’t turn and the dash didn’t light up? Do the side lights come on?

You know the old lock has security bolts and will need to be drilled out of the yoke? Be sure it’s a faulty barrel and not another issue.

Hello Kawasaki Jimbo After putting WD40 Down the Key hole the Bike will turn on and start . Before that the Key would go in Fully but you could not turn on the ignition as it would not turn. He put in the WD40 and was able to turn the bike on 10 times in a row , We thought it was just gumed up and the WD40 Had cured it. He tried to turn it on again around an hour later but the key would not turn. The bike is kept inside so it was not sitting out in the rain which could have explained why the ignition Lock was seized .Hopefully he can get a New ignition for it as the Bike is Mint .Cheers Francis
