I will achieve nothing, just like yesterday and the day before. I suppose looking after my son alone is an achievement. He's pretty fucked up and it's no easy task. He's 23 and heavy these days.

Fair enough. I shall qualify: I am in the enviable position of having a job where you can actually achieve things. Maybe not personal fame and fortune but I know there are hospitality staff across the world who's lives a tiny bit less shit because of the software I write Smile

I'll try to keep to the spirit of the thread.

I'm working on a digital tachometer project for my bike. I hope to get the prototype working later today.

Just getting out of bed has been an achievement today. Rolling Eyes

The plan for today's achievement is to finish the minutes which I was taking when my back "went out on me" on Wednesday.
Thank goodness for Copilot, which has actually done most of the work for me.

I just need to find the energy to focus enough to make sense of it all through the haze of painkillers Laughing

I like the concept of this thread, even though it was started by that person who is apparently no longer here. Laughing At some point I will find the energy to discover what he has done to achieve final banishment Laughing Right now, I can't be arsed as I can barely motivate myself to breathe.

So do software developers Smile I felt like I achieved quite a lot today, prototyping a remote database backup system.

Some jobs are of the type where achieving something in a week is a milestone. Back after the Covid lockdowns I was in that boat. I won't go into it but some things are a fight every step of the way.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

The great thing with code is if you fuck it up you can usually redo it at very little cost. Fuck something up on say a lathe or CNC machine and the result of your failure physically exists for all time for all to see Shocked Unless you melt it down of course Laughing

I was doing really well today, dotting lots of I's and crossing lots of T's until I discovered right at the end of an induction meeting (close to 5pm) that I had forgotten to invite two fairly key people for the rounding-up of the session Brick Wall

Fortunately I had dipped out of the meeting halfway through to do some other work, but I saw it come up in the "recap" that I had running during the meeting.

I'm *so* gonna get it from my boss tomorrow, LOL
Better get my act together and finish the projects he asked for, to sweeten him up Rolling Eyes

We do this once a month review thing in our weekly one-to-ones :
Thumbs Up What went well this month?
Middle Finger What "could have gone better?" (i.e., what did I fuck up)

I've already written my "lesson learnt from today's fuck-up and what I plan to do better next time" - I'm ready for him....

I hoped to get to South Ken in time to go to Snappy Snaps and get some passport-sized photos for an application form.

I was already pushing my luck for time and had to leave home a bit earlier than usual to be sure I could fit it into today's unusually busy schedule.

But as I got to my local underground station, nestled in the corner where I have genuinely never noticed it before was ... a photo machine.

Woot! I was all done and dusted in less than ten minutes.

I was very pleased that the wait for the photo is much shorter, not like in the bad old days of waiting in drafty hallways for 10 minutes to receive a slightly soggy strip of photos. Dance!
