This news is reported in TV news repeatedly here too. What a shocking news. Can you carry self defence items like telescopic baton, stun gun etc legally? When I was around 30yo I was attacked by 3 men on the road and was robbed of my purse and glasses. After that I was carrying both of them in my waist porch and trouser pocket during daily commuting. I stopped it when I came to countryside and started car commuting.
-edit-
I live in Japan and carrying them is legal as far as there's a reason. I was once called a police man at air port, but when I explained my experience, he released me with no problem. But it seem illegal to carry defence items in UK without permission according to google search.

Yep, it’s a ruse. For example, a British Overseas Territories citizen is a “British national” but not a citizen with full right of abode in the UK. A couple of Jamaicans then. Yardies, drug dealers and suchlike tend to keep any violence between themselves. If this wasn’t a terror attack what on earth was it? Are we supposed to believe the “mentally ill lone wolves” are teaming up now?

Batons, tasers and even pepper spray are all illegal in the UK.

As we don't have any details, it could even be the two engineers were running through the train trying to stab each other and anyone who was in the way got some too.

And then there was one.

BBC News wrote:
A man, 32, is being treated as the only suspect in a stabbing attack that occurred on board a Doncaster-London train on Saturday, police say.

A 35-year-old man, also arrested last night, has since been released after they confirmed he was not involved.

Spree killers are another reason or people paid or threatened to do it.

Only because some judges said so under the dodgy interpretation of firearm law.

Also the Offensive Weapons Act 2019 and the Criminal Justice Act 1988. There are probably others.

Offensive weapons, the whole thing is a joke. I have a multi tool. If the police stop me and don't accept I need it for work (in my case boat maintenance) I can get done for a bladed weapon.

I also have a machete, a crossbow, and a gaff hook on my boat. (Along with various knives but they are oK because , well just because i need them on board)

The house, my god I have a meat cleaver. Is it for cleaving meat or cleaving bodies Shocked oh yes, And an air rifle, a crossbow, a 9" bowie knife and 3 fully operational antique guns. If that scumbag from Southport who killed those little girls should have been reported for buying knives? Then why shouldn't I as well.

My point is the whole thing is a joke. You can do what you want until you are naughty and then the establishment blame who it suits them, but never themselves.
