I just remebered Foundation
I thought S01 was good and I haven't got around to watching S02 yet
so I have that in me stash for the long winter nights.
I read the books so long ago I wont be quibbling over details and its adherence to the original text.

The acting is generally decent IMO. the main issue is Philip Michael Thomas's 'Jamaican' accent. It's absolutely dire. Who let him go undercover as a Jamaican? Both in and out of universe!

Other than that it's a stylish well judged detective show, by and large. It does go off the cliff a bit in season 3 with the episode 'missing hours' where James Brown is a peanut butter obsessed alien, and Trudy gets abducted... But then it comes back with the 2 parter 'Mirror Image' where Crockett gets amnesia and believes he's actually his undercover drug dealer alter ego Sonny Burnett. It may strain credulity, but it's freaking awesome to see Don Johnson play a ruthless ice cold bad guy.

Edward James Olmos has definitely perfected the gruff unemotional captain, and some of the more consequential story elements with respect to Zweitek and Zito are heartbreaking. And Gina and Trudy are generally quite easy on the eye, as well as actually providing a lot of the dramatic weight.

Seemed odd to me that they'd buy the rights to it and then make something that was nothing like the books.

Well, I enjoyed the two seasons that were made ... before they fecking cancelled it ... bastards!

The latest BBC garbage ... The War Between the Land and the Sea.

I didn't realise it was a Dr Who thing to begin wth, haven't watched any Who since before the Dr changed sex, it was ony the references to The Dr that made it click.

The acting in this is absolutely horrendous and stereo-typed ... from the heroic general (with appropriate voice), to the supposed head of SHITE (or whatevere the organisation is called), who falls apart at the slightest thing, to the central character who acts like a 5 year old (apologies to 5 year olds).

If this is the type of garbage the BEEB is producing now then it shouldn't just be defunded, it should be shut down and every single one of them should be put up in front of a firing squad!

I totally agree. Wifie stuck it on on I player and I thought it was just a SciFi type series but as it progressed it was more like a childrens programme. I clicked on it was a Dr Who spin off part way through probably due to the dire special effects and the 'save the world/think of the children' storyline. Utter drivel.

Thing is, they can do good Sci-Fi Dr. Who spin-offs i.e. Torchwood. Children of Earth and Miracle Day are particularly grim.

Having not watched it for many many years, I didn't know the depths to which it had plunged, but in my wildest dreams I didn't think it'd get this bad.

The first Dr Who I came across (well remember) was Jon Pertwee, and back then (and for a few actors after) it was done in a reasonably serious manner, yes there was much cheapness about the sets, not to mention the costumes and a bit of goofiness here and there, but overall it was pretty good ... over time it has become more and more ridiculous!

It's as though they are exagerrating each of the characters traits, just so that we simple minded folks can understand who the goodies and baddies are!

As for the story (can it be called that) so far, if the fish fingers have the technology to remove every human made thing from the oceans instantly, then what's the feckin problem ... just keep on doing that, no need to debate, no need to go to war, just dump all the shit back on land!

Mind you, I'll still watch it, just to see how much worse it gets Laughing
