Can anyone advise me why I can't insure a bike?

Full background:
~10years ago I was disqualified from driving after a car crash & the judge took my bike licence at the same time, naturally.
I went out & bought an ebike to commute, regained my provisional licence 2 years after the disqual but didn't need a vehicle for work so didn't progress it.

Last week a big bike came up for sale cheap, a 99 R6, my childhood dream bike, so I bought it. I cannot get the thing insured anywhere currently.

What am I missing?

Obviously Learners insure mopeds all the time, but after an argument with my apartment management company I have been told I am not eligible for a parking permit so I need to park the bike in the public bike bay down the end of the street, something I can't do without insurance.

Why do you only have a provisional licence? Were you told you needed to take a retest? Or was your licence revoked rather than disqualified?

And this is an R6. What have mopeds got to do with anything?

R6 on a provisional? Parked on the street which means you cannot SORN it. TPFT but you’re not planning to ride it. An insurer will see all this as dodgy.* You need to find a place to store it off the road. Work, perhaps?

*Have you actually spoken to a broker, or just got on-line quotes?

Update, FWIW.

I can't insure the bike because it's over 125cc without a full bike licence, so can't store it on publically accessible land/open driveway, but insurance broker (bikesure) said I could insure a car on a provisional to park it on the street outside the house, even something like a 1.5TD.

Ridiculous.

Not insuring you for a bike you cannot legally ride seem logical to me
as does insuring a car you can legally drive with qualified passenger.

I fail to see the bit your struggling with tbh. No licence = cant ride it = cant insure to be on the road.

storage insurance exists but 'on the road' is not storage.

Insurance insures you to RIDE a vehicle.

Your licence doesnt meet the requirements.

You would need to seek laid up insurance or just you know, put somewhere else.

If the bike is always parked in the public bike bay down the end of your street and never ridden then sooner or later, isn't it likely to be stolen? Possibly by the local council when someone reports it as an abandoned vehicle. https://www.gov.uk/report-abandoned-vehicle
