Firstly, nice to be back. I sold my last bike 10+ years ago and am looking to return on a little 125.

Background: I have just acquired a 2011 Yamaha YBR 125 (FI model). The bike has had VERY limited mileage for the last few years. It is currently SORN with expired MOT and has been stood for 8+ months under a rain cover in the garden. I don't know when the fuel that was in the tank was added, suspect older than 1 year.

The plan is for the bike to be a little commuter and build up NCB again.

ISSUE:
The bike will start, the engine will run for a few seconds but will not idle after the revs drop down. If I try to rev using throttle the engine will stall. I have been trying to resolve but currently at a loss. I know the bike was used by the previous owner and ran OK before being sat. I believe they tried to start while it was off the road so assume they have pulled bad fuel into the system.

DONE:
Fresh fuel & FI cleaner added to tank
New Battery,
New Spark Plug
Air filter is clean
Throttle body removed and cleaned
No air leaks around TP detected
- ordered Haynes manual

NEXT:
Following online fault finding i'm looking at cleaning the injector next.

I was just looking for any other advice or suggestions from anyone who may be familiar with these bikes and have had a similar problem. Thanks in advance.

I have removed, cleaned, tested and replaced the Fuel Injector today. Bike is running same as before.

It was very evident that with the fuel tank removed it is continually leaking petrol. Once the hose has been removed from fuel sender assembly underneath the tank will not stop leaking. I have now removed completely and placed over a bucket to drain overnight.

Could this be cause of starting / non idling issue shown in video? If so please explain why (just so i can understand). I did order a replacement yesterday so that should arrive next week. Cheers.

I've never diagnosed FI, but presumably somewhere there's a high pressure pump (is this what you are referring to as the 'sender' - normally thats the fuel gauge sensor).. If the pump is on it's way out or if there is a leak or blockage to the injector you might think it will start, lose pressure then stop, until it can 'recharge' pressure again.. Thinking

Think fuel is restricted one way or another.
Sometimes there's a gauze filter in the bottom of the tank?
At that age I don't think it will have much emissions control trying to take over.

Ok, the in tank fuel filter is filthy. Also been cleaning dried varnish off seal. Just waiting on the new fuel assembly unit now. Hopefully this is root cause of all issues
