A while back I bought the Batman Arkham series on GOG, and never played any of them. I just started playing Arkham Asylum and it's freaking awesome. It took me a while to get into the tone, but it's so much fun.

I'm glad I got the cheap deal.

Asylum is a good game. the rest not so much.

Max Payne (PC) - 9.5/10

Yesterday I found a Max Payne 1 and 2 bundle on Steam for just €4.49 and had to have it.

I played it over lockdown (CEX find) with my win98 PC for the first time. I enjoyed it for what it was. Though, I didn't notice any stutter?

If those versions come with it's SDK you can tinker with the settings to make the game more amusing.

Arkham City seems good so far. It's the Game of the year version so has the Catwoman DLC which I'm really enjoying. Catwoman is way more fun in combat than Batman.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne (PC) - 5.5/10

To be honest, I never liked this one. Sure, the visuals are improved, especially the character models, but that's about it. I'm still disappointed Sam Lake didn't play Max Payne again, the voice actor James McCaffrey stayed though, but the amount of dialogues and monologues seem quite limited, compared to the first game where Max Payne's (James McCaffrey's) inner monologues were driving the story forward. The soundtrack is also somewhat sporadic, the game being quiet for the most part.

This game also has a then brand new physics simulation model, but just like any such implementation at that era, they put it everywhere just to show off (loose objects and explosions everywhere). The ragdoll effect is well done, though.

The game also uses way too many cut scenes, compared to the first game and even though you now switch between two characters the game felt very short and easy. I finished it in 4 hours with no issues whatsoever. Just checked, it took me 7.5 hours to finish the first Max Payne game and to be honest I got stuck here and there when I couldn't beat some enemies right away.

One to watch out for if you like Medieval fighting: Half Sword will be available as Early Access from the 30th Jan. It has the most unhinged trailer I've seen in a while Surprised

There's a demo version available on Steam with a fair amount to get your teeth into, mostly rag-dolls and cheesy physics. Even so, if you follow proper sword fighting techniques - as laid out in the various German Fechtbücher - you might just keep your head!
