Anti fog rain solution

Can someone suggest anti rain and fog solution for helmet visor?

The only one that actually works for a prolonged period in very poor conditions is an electrically heated snowmobile visor. Unfortunately, they aren't road legal in the UK.

There are various other solutions which are better than nothing but they all deliver less than they promise.

I have a pinlock in my Shoei that I use for commuting, I also use Nikwax Visor Proof, and I also have this weird french made potion called Visio Dry that is supposed to completely deflect all water from the treated surface.

The Nikwax is really good, the Visio dry stuff doesn't work that well as it wipes off too easily. I'm sure it does what it says on the tin, but it's not right for the outside of a bike visor because you generally want to wipe away moisture and so on with a Vee wipe or similar. It seems to work for 5-10 minutes and then... stops.

The Nikwax is reasonably priced for what it is, and so with my extensive trial and error experience, I'd recommend a pinlock and the Nikwax solution.

I use Motoverde Rain-Away on my visor screen and it seems to do the job pretty well. In the inside of my visor I use a Pinlock, nothing beats it, but my glasses still mist over. For them the best anti-fog treatment I've ever used is ProGear Anti Fog Gel. It's expensive for the small amount you get but it really is good stuff and a little goes a long way.

There's also Hawaiian stick but you can't get it any more. I have a stash of them, and I'm guarding them with my life!

Go faster. Seriously, I’ve chosen alternate routes to avoid congestion and increase speed, or filtered more than I would otherwise have done, just to demist and improve vision. I think (but I’m not certain) that a Pinlock helps. An old, scratched and dirty visor will ‘seed’ condensation so avoid that. I’ve used various sprays but can’t tell if they worked. I once explored the snowmobile visors that stinkwheel mentioned, and thought about a custom solution using battery-powered heated wires stuck to an Arai visor (because the snowmobile ones are helmet-specific and probably not suitable for bikes) but it’s such a rare problem even for a speccy like me (particularly now I ride less in Winter) that I got nowhere. Damn, I could have been the next visor entrepreneur like that Adam.

I’ve recently switched to a Shoei helmet and rode a few times in the wet without the Pinlock that came with it. I had to ride with the visor partially open to prevent misting up. Fitting the Pinlock has totally cured that - even at slow speed in heavy rain/cold I can have the visor fully closed.
For rain shedding on the outside I use Rain X - not perfect but much better than nothing.

I've used Pinlock inserts for a couple of decades and while I recognise that they're not everyone's cup of tea, they really work for me. I'm not sure I would've gone looking for one, but I bought a new Shoei in 2006 and the Pinlock was included in the box. I gave it a try and was an immediate convert.

I had a quick search for info on heated visors based on stinkwheel's comment and saw that Shoei recently released their own electronic visor insert called e-Drylens that is both heated and automatically adjusts the tint based on light levels. It's only available in Japan and only for certain recent model helmets, but it has promise.

As for the chance it would ever be made road legal in the UK? Yeah, I'm not holding my breath... (there's probably a visor fog joke to make here, but I'm too lazy)

My last couple of helmets came with removable chin curtains. I suspect they could be good for cutting down wind noise, but I never use them. I fitted one once and the visor fogging was uncontrollable. never used them again.

I wear Arai's so this only really applies to them.
I keep my visors clean so rain tends to run off, any that doesn't I ignore. I also use Pinlock or the Chinese equivalent which when fitted correctly stop the visor fogging up.

Not really sure why this is a problem anymore, thought it was all sorted years ago?
