A 2nd PS5 controller.

Seeing as Sony are whacking the price of all their consoles up I assume peripherals will too so thought I'd get in before they do.

I bought a new PC monitor, my very first OLED panel, ever.

It's a g-sync/freesync compatible 4K@240Hz panel (MSI MPG 322URX QD-OLED). I wanted one ever since OLED panels first appeared, but back then the smallest ones were essentially 42" TVs. Then smaller monitors came, but the prices were still sky high, plus they had quite a bit of issues, such as displaying text with colour fringing and aberrations. Also, my biggest fear was image retention (burn in), especially considering how expensive those panels still were.

Now, the OLED technology improoved to a point, there are no image quality issues, many manufacturers now offer 32" 4K panels and the prices got to a point I said why not*. Also, not sure about other manufacturers, but the panel I got has got many image rentention prevention features (pixel shift, taskbar/logo/boundary detection...) that I will use. I hope I'm not getting the BCF logo burned into my new panel any time soon. Laughing

* NOTE: A friend of mine died last week and when someone close to me dies I always reconsidered everything I have always wanted to do/own/have... when my mother died six years ago, I bought a road bike and I have been cycling ever since.

Anyway, so far, both HDR and SDR content, incl. gaming, is just beyond anything my previous VA panel could do. I mean, the contrast of any OLED panel is essentially infinite. ALSO, I completely forgot how smooth high refresh rate monitors are. Years ago I tried briefly a 144Hz IPS monitor, but I gave up on it the moment I first saw 4K, I even used to play at 30Hz vsync on my GTX 1070 Ti just to have that 4K clarity. Now I'm back at 100Hz+ and it's amazing, even the frame gen on my RTX 4070 Ti Super starts to make sense now.

TL;DR: I bought a new monitor and so far I'm happy with it. Thumbs Up

Female DIN socket. Stupid stuff like this is why I miss Maplins. I could have just gone and got it - and at a competitive price too. Now I have to wait days. RS electronics seem not to have anything I want in stock over the counter so they're no use either (also expensive).

I need to make an adapter cable vga>din for my Amstrad CTM664 monitor as I need to utilise the 15khz the computer in question uses natively (Archimedes A3010) and none of my other monitors (mostly crt) do 15khz. They're not multisync compatible, or are in monochrome anyway which defeats the point in looking for chip related screen garblage (colours and patterns can give away points of defect).

Bought my ex a fancy solar-powered battery pack for his trip to Australia (but which I charged up with my electricity to make sure it was running okay) - the power lasts for ages when the pack is not being used - I've had it in a drawer for about three or four weeks since I charged it just after it arrived.

Dunno how many recharges he would get of his phone from it before it would require charging but I guess as he will be in Australia he can just stick it out in the sun and it will do the rest whilst he sleeps Laughing

It even has a carabiner on it so he can hang it from his belt (one supposes) and has got a torch thing at the end with a couple of different modes (on/off, flashing slow, flashing fast) but it seems pretty damn powerful. When he finally worked out how to switch it off, I had spots before my eyes Shocked Shocked

I can't remember how much I paid for it, but it wasn't all that expensive. I was gonna keep it for myself and give him my old (smaller) one that will recharge a phone 2.5 times. But then he liked this one so much I let him have it as a 12-year anniversary of sobriety gift, cos I am nice like that.

It works- or well, rather I can see what it's doing/not doing now. I wanted to just chop off the end of a sacrificial vga cable to attach the DIN to, but as it happens it was a cheap cable and it was annoying and difficult to work with the crappy quality- so I found an old diy serial cable in my box, and attached it to that- but the sacrificial cable wasn't all a waste- I remove the moulding on the plug and reduced it bare so that I could utilise the pins. Had to make quite a lot of modification though as there were ground joins in places I didn't want etc so some removal of pins was easiest. Anyway. Cable made- Acorn Archimedes A3010 displays on the Amstrad CTM644. Now I need to fix/circumvent the keyboard traces so that I can execute diagnostic commands to make sure all the circuitry is working, and go from there if needed.

I did. I also got the care refresh plan for a couple of years as it's my first drone and they'll basically replace it if you damage it accidentally or you get a flyaway.

I've had a couple of practice sessions and it's remarkably easy to fly plus it has so many programmable features it's mindboggling.

You did make me go and buy a new drone cos my Mini 2 SE is giving me an inferiority complex.

Bought the DJI Lito X1 - just released this month.

I too bought some drone stuff, a Radiomaster Pocket controller.
Don't have a drone yet, just flying some simulators for now to see if I enjoy it before I spend a lot of money on a fpv and headset. A few years ago I spent a lot on RC helicopters and only used them a few times Laughing

A wheel skate / tyre dolly thing

https://www.bikechatforums.com/files/img_0195_-_copy.jpg

With limited space in my shed I need to be able to tuck a bike away into a space that's barely bigger than a bike. I either end up doing Austin Powers 1000 point turns or lift the back of the bike into position and I'd rather not risk my back anymore.

I have an old Abba stand and their dolly, but it doesn't move well on my textured vinyl flooring and it sticks out quite a bit, taking up even more precious space.

I saw these skates online and it turned out to be exactly what I needed. Put the front wheel where you want it, lift the back with the skate (effortless hydraulic), lift the bike off the side stand, roll the back wheel sideways into the space, back on the side stand, drop the wheel off the skate and job done.

The fact that you can have it hover in a breeze and not move until you're ready to do something was very cool for me.
