You don’t mean ‘stiffness’ you mean either preload or compression damping one presumes? You should never go to maximum on any of them unless you’ve eliminated other handling issues.

maximum preload then.
i thought id try that, then try minimum, just to see what difference the two extremes make.
the bike is a bit harsh at the back end over uneven surfaces.

Set the rider sag. You need to have it so the suspension sits at the top of the bottom 2/3rds of travel (or the bottom of the top 3rd, whichever way you prefer) with you sitting on the bike. It'll make a huge difference.

Then if the suspension feels too 'harsh' I'd say back off a click or two of compression damping.

I've attached a zip file with a PDF of a magazine article that explains suspension setup. It doesn't include high and low speed damping, but most bikes don't have this anyway.

thanks MarJay.
the suspension on my bike is very basic. the only adjustment available is the preload on the rear shocks.
id have to splash out on aftermarket stuff if i wanted any more adjustment.

I've learned that, annoyingly, the safety sensors (side-stand and/or dropped bike) will still allow the Aprilia to fire up for a few seconds => minute before cutting out.

Thus confusing the ignorant... (me Neutral ).

Stripped, cleaned and reassembled my pretech 6-pot callipers. For the second time in a month.

Bit of a pain because pretech no longer exist. You can still get parts for them from farkhamhall.co.uk.

Had a sticking piston about a month ago, just before I was going to go away on it. Stripped and cleaned them and all looking good. I needed to fitt new o-rings for between the calliper halves, thinking I'd have some in my kit. It turns out they are actually x-rings (sometimes known as quad-rings) which don't come in the same standared sizes as o-rings.

I took a chance and re-used them because I was going the next day. They worked but one calliper had a tiny weep between the join.

Farkhamhall only list complete rebuild kits and I only needed the four o-rings so cue pissing about and trying to measure them (again, not as easy as o-rings).

Anyway, I can now say for certainty that pretech 6-pot callipers use a 1.78mm Section, 6.07mm Bore x-ring. You can buy them cheap on simply bearings, part number: Q4010. Hopefully any search engines also read this in case someone else is looking.

Fixed the indicators on the KR-1S, turns out I'd forgotten to connect the front ones back up!

Adjusted the controls on the Blade so the reach to the clutch and front brake is slightly less.
