I bought a fresh set of brake pads for my w210. When swapping my wheels for the summer set the other day, I've noticed the rear left brake pads were very worn, unlike the rest of the car's brakes... well, today I have seen something that I had no idea was even possible. The brake pad material cracked and split right in the middle. Now, what I have noticed right away the moment I saw the old pads and the fresh set side by side, the fresh set only has one brake pad with the hole for the brake pad wear indicator pin. The indicator pin wire is on the right side of the car.

So, I think that the holes in the old brake pads let water inside the pad material and winter frost did the rest. I mean, look at how cleanly the pad material split, right in the middle, like a piece of slate.
