Earlier this year I found another one as a project.
Same year and model but different colour, Goldy looking not white.
Only 12700 miles and last MOT expired January 2015 so off the road for the last
10/11 years
Its history as it was told to me was it was initially bought in Preston
taken to a Greek island as a runabout then eventually ridden back home where it's been
alone and palely loitering as the owner would not ride it, work on it, nor sell it.
I could only find 2 previous UK MOts
1 in 2004 at 6360 miles in Preston
2 in 2014 at 10618 miles in Preston again
which somewhat supports the Greek island story

The low milage and the engine sounding good got me buying it as project so I went 'up norf'
to fetch it back and stripped it to a bare frame to address any corrosion and renovate it.
Apart from the shockingly poor attempt at welding on the stand support, it showed quite a few signs of ham fisted bodgery
and repairs but luckily nothing that caused serious damage.
Having renovated one of these before helped me get into it.

I eventually got the frame rubbed down, cleaned up, rust treated and painted
a feckin chore but necessary.

One fork leg was pretty fooked but luckily I found a SH set in good nick for the age
reasonably priced and put new seals in those

I've obviously skipped over the 1001 other wee jobs we all get during a fix up
like damaged/rusty/missing fittings and finding things I had in me feckin hand two minutes ago
so where the hell is it?
but basically new tyres, discs & pads, braided brake pipes, master cylinder kits
oil, filters, coolant, brake fluid, paint, copper grease, plus gas etc
I sourced a new down pipe cheap and a non rusted out silencer from Italy
as the originals were badly corroded, New battery as well.

I had spare carb already so made one up from the best of the two
and it's now running and nearly ready for MOT next week.
I wont fit all the plastics until all testing and tweaking has been done.

The seat cover is split and pretty shabby but found a new fitted cover from AliExpress
of all places for £52.
it looks good in the pic so I hope it's as good as it looks

Yep, it was a chore to be sure, when i saw the state of the bottom yoke which had heavy surface rust (possibly due to being on that island?) I knew I'd have to strip to a bare frame to make sure there were no serious issues.
It was fiddly in places but not too bad barring having to recitify the god awful 'welding' on the cross member holding the main stand.

All the fixings were changed to stainless where possible and copperslipped so they come out without a struggle next time.

I haven't used Foulups once other then using the parts page to get part numbers as they're so bloody expensive.
A locking fuel cap from Fowlers £160 an aftermarket XV/Roadstar cap with 2 keys, £17 from ebay
Silencer. £1050 new from foulups or £64 inc postage for a very good second hand one from Ebay Italy

Well done.

I've actually just been doing the same with the rear frame (and swingarm) section on my 251. I forgot how much I dislike cleaning up and repainting frames!
