 |
|
Hey everyone,
I’m excited to open this new thread to share a project that’s been in the works for a while – and to get your feedback, ideas, and maybe even some constructive criticism along the way.
We’re building a full all-wheel-drive (2×2) motorcycle.
Yes, you read that right. A motorcycle where both wheels are driven. Not a dual‑sport with traction control, but a true mechanical 2WD system that puts power to the front wheel as well as the rear.
Where we started
Before jumping straight into a motorcycle, we decided to prove the concept on two wheels first – and we did. We built a working prototype of a 2×2 all-wheel-drive bicycle called AFRICA 2X2.
And it works.
We’ve tested it extensively:
Sand – no problem
Snow – grips and goes
Mud – stable and predictable
Ice – stays composed when a regular bike would wash out
The AFRICA 2X2 proved that the drivetrain concept is viable, and it gave us the confidence to scale things up.
What we’re building now
Now we’re taking everything we learned and applying it to a motorcycle platform. The goal is a rugged, capable 2×2 machine that can handle extreme off‑road conditions where traditional motorcycles struggle – deep sand, loose gravel, mud, snow, and slippery surfaces.
We’re not chasing insane top speeds. We’re chasing traction, stability, and go‑anywhere capability.
Video documentation
We’ve been documenting the development process, and there’s already a video available showing the prototype in action and some of the early design work:

Interesting, but I’m not able to access the link. ?
In terms of proving the concept, 2-wheel drive motorcycles have been numerous enough for Visordown to post a piece on the Top 10 two-wheel drive motorcycles. |
